How to remove rear caliper
Hi Guys,
I bought some OEM break pads for my 2000 GS400 from Steve. The change for the front was a snap but I couldn't get the rear caliper to budge.
Could someone please let me know if i'm removing the correct bolts to get to the rear break pads?

That looks about right...
From that angle it looks about right. Follow the caliper with your finger tips towards the back, and you'll see two bolts, I believe they are either 17mm or 19mm, and those are the ones you need to take off. Make sure you are going in the right direction, thinking that you are loosening when actually you are tightening. And please keep in mind, this is not to insult your intelligence. Hope this helps....

I Have Never Changed The Pads On My Car Yet
Hello,
I have not changed the pads on my GS yet, but most rear calipers require a tool to turn the piston back in to allow the new pads room to seat. Can you use just a "C" clamp and PUSH the piston back in?
Thanks,

Thanks for the help. Yeah, i actually had to stop and think about which way to turn the bolts. Now if there only is a mod for Intelligence.
However from Rominl's reply, It sounds like I am doing something wrong.
I changed the front pads by removing the bottom bolt holding the caliper in place. I was then able to swing the caliper up and then gained access to the pads. I used the same procedure to change the front & rear pads for the RX. I take it this is not the case for the rear GS?
How do you remove the "piece on the top of the caliper"?
Thanks guys.

Thanks for the help guys. I removed the cotter pin and everything else was a snap.
The local dealer wanted to charge $600 for the labor and parts to change all the break pads. With the help of Steve and you guys, i managed to do it for $100!
