TOYOS
Bitkahuna, I initially chose the Toyos because:
-I could get them at an excellent price
-They’re the lightest tires on the market (perfect match for my ultra-light TE37s)
-They have the highest treadwear rating of any max performance tire that I know of (280)
-I read rave reviews of the Toyos specially in european magazines.
-I liked the agressive tread pattern
Compared to the stock 17” Potenzas, I’ve noticed the Toyos ride much smoother and offer better handling (thanks to a special Toyo technology that increases the tension of the belt). Handling at the limit is more predictable and progressive due to the rounder shoulder blocks. Tire noise is definitely lower specially in smooth roads, and wet performance is A LOT better. The traction control no longer goes crazy when driving in very wet roads.

toyos are good
miguel,
thanks for the feedback on the toyos. personally i like the T1-s quite a lot, for all the reasons you listed.
wow, you have the lean and strong TE37 volk? your gs must FLYYYYYYY:eek:
what size are you running? did you stagger?
for 245/40/18, what is a good price i'd be expecting to pay? before tax and install?
thanks for your input.

Wheels
Hi gs4will,
I do have a staggered setup: 235/45 8.5" in front and 265/35 9.5" in the back. Yes, my GS feels faster and ride quality improved with the 30 lbs of unsprung weight/rotational mass I saved.
I have no idea how much the toyos cost in the US. Just for comparison, I got the four tires for about $800 directly imported from Japan at the duty free port in Margarita (island north of Venezuela ).

I'm thinking of 245/40 front and 275/35 back for replacements to fill things out a bit more.
Comments appreciated.

Correction
Bitkahuna,
Sorry for the typo, you're right! That would be a weird size, I actually have 235/40's in front and 265/35 in the back, same as you!
These are the tire sizes that Volk recommends for the GS on their 18" TE37's (aspect ratio and width). On the other hand, Toyo recommends these sizes for 8.5" and 9.5" wide rims.
I'm sure you'll find the Toyos to your liking as much as I do.

Do you think that wheel/tire size fills things out enough? Although the 235/40 and 265/35 are about the same circumference as the stock 235/45/17s, somehow I think the 18s and tires look a bit smaller (due to lower profile tires, probably), although of course the WIDER rear tires are great for filling the wheel well out width wise.
Anyway, thanks again.

Offset
Bitkahuna,
I think my setup fills the wheel wells just fine. I have noticed that the wheel offset is a very important factor in the wheel well filling impression. My wheels have an offset of +40mm (kinda rare for the GS), so they sit at least 1.5 cm more outward than the stock 17" in the front and about 3 cm in the back. With the ~1.3" drop Eibachs, I can barely fit my hand between the top of the tire and the well.
If your rims have a higher positive offset (meaning they sit a little more inward), I would recommend the 245's and 275's to get a better fill.

Thanks guys.
My comment wasn't on wheel width/position, my offsets are 44 or 45 I think, which is great. It was on the overall diameter. I still think I'll go for 245/275 at some point.
