teins flex

I believe I read about spring rates posted by Manary (where did he go?) and the PSS was rated stiffer than Flex and my butt-o-meter agrees with those numbers. They are supposed to be in between Flex and HA's, but I have not been in a car equipped with HA's so I can only say they are stiffer than the Flex's at the hardest setting.

Then again, everyone has a different sense of balance between ride quality and handling and there is not perfect for everyone.

True, but the question was stiffness and believe me, these are stiffer than Flex's at the hardest setting. Not doubt, No question about it. But as you said, stiffness and ride quality are two different animals. Once I put a few hundred more miles on them, I will post a follow-up. I am not committed to any one brand-just what works for me. So if these don't cut it-off they go to the Classifieds. So far I like them but rain today prevented me from sliding around in my favorite skidpad area

here is a short list i stole from manarays list of stiffness ratings.
Tein CS: 9/8
Tein Flex: 10/9
Bilstein PSS:12.25/8.17
JIC SF-1 12/9
Tein HA: 14/10
JIC FLT-A2 - 14/10

valving

The valving of the shocks also come into play and since the Flex is adjustable, there is a range of ride comfort/handling that can be felt. I agree though that if the PSS has stiffer springs, it will be better with transitions and cornering if the shocks were equal.

it also guotes neo and i hope that is okay.

I think the dampening settings (clicks) has to do with the valving of the "shock" part of the coilover. The rating above are the rates of the "spring" part of the coilover. Aren't these spring compression rates independent of the rest of the coilover? Now the combination somewhat determines the ride quality but I don't think these rates are dependent on the dampening settings.
At least this is how I understand it.

okay i asked the jic -magic people here is what they told me

Regarding the chart, the chart that you've read is the
chart of the spring rates. It is the stiffness rate
of the springs. In you case is 14kg/mm in the front
and 10kg/mm in the rear. It does have connection with
the dampening rate, since springs and dampers is
working together. But, from the dampening settings,
it is pretty much a preference. Some people like it
soft, some people like it stiff.
