Smile Coilover stiffness rates

This is courtesy of Manaray

Here is a list of coilover spring rates of available coilover systems that I've put together...these are for the JZS16x and JSZ147 Aristos (aka: 2nd GS300/GS400/GS430 and 1st generation GS300). All numbers are Kg/mm^2 and the lower the number, the softer the ride. I have listed them from softest (near stock) to stiffest (hope you have a well padded ***!)...however, some setups use pretty stiff front springs with soft rear springs so it's not an exact softest to stiffest list...

Generally, the dampening rates are matched to the springs (so soft dampening with soft springs)

There are a few missing (like H&R...I'm calling them tommorow) so I'll update this list as I get them...if anyone has additions or corrections, please post in this thread...

Here are a couple more for JIC MAGIC
JIC FLT-A2 - 14/10

JIC SF-1 12/9

I've got the JIC FLT-A2 it is the same rating as the Tein HA

I love them but my wife does not like riding in my car.
She does not like feeling the bumps in the road.
Fine with me, I get tired of the screaming as I go around curves.

Seriously she has her own GS400 and likes the cushy stock shocks. If I can talk her into it someday I would like to put some Tein CS's on her car as I know it would handle better. I hate the way the stock shocks seem to float over bumps.

I would love to try out those RA's they must really handle nice.

I think an important part of the information of the coilover is missing ...

That's the compression and rebound force of the shock part and that is what really determines the coilover's characteristics.

To clarify my question, will the Tein HA's ride like a 2002+ m3? Thanks for the great response guys. I really appreciate all of your help. Personally, I love to be one with the road on weekends.

well for the m3 i assume stock suspension and on 18s? and the gs i assume tein HA with stock 17s? at the softest maybe they are about the same, but with the middle setting i think the tein HA is way stiffer than than the m3 already.

and the problem with the softest settings is that the car actually rebounce pretty funny

Not sure where you're coming from but your car (if it's the one in your sig pic) is FWD so it will NEVER feel like a 'bimmer' no matter what you do.

HAs though will be stiffer than most any BMWs except MAYBE the most recent M3 which is quite stiff and 'jiggly'.

On an ES300? No disrespect, but sorry, no.

You guys are so mean. I just want to drop my car the right way. Don't hate and discriminate. I still own a nice lexus just like everyone else here on this forum. I don't feel the love here anymore. I guess Club Lexus wasn't the second home I was looking for.

I don't see anyone being mean to you. Now I am confused.

Sorry if you felt I or anyone was mean, but BMW's have perfect weight balance and rear wheel drive which is a HUGE aspect of their handling. Putting coilovers on ANY front wheel drive car, not just an ES, won't make it like a BMW.

Now will coilovers make your car handle better? SURE! Just want you to have realistic expectations.

Question to float over bumps

Now that's nice, a husband and wife GS400 duo. What a sweet couple.
I would love that, to mod mine and casually drive hers. What I don't understand Ivan is that you hate the way stock shocks float over bumps.... I totally love the sitting in a bowl of jello like feeling that comes with a stock suspension but I do want to keep the car from swaying and tilting in turns. Is it possible to have both?
