Has anyone painted the hubs on their rotors? I have some aftermarket rotors and wanted to paint the hubs silver. Has anyone done this?

And Dave should I mix it in a glass cup or something like that?

Thanks for the help guys

Yep, some folks have painted the hubs but ususally with high temp spray rather than brush on.

You could use either glass or metal cup (e.g. an old can) to mix.

Hi GS300Rich:

I use 1000deg high temperature Derusto #762 "Aluminum" paint or similar. This paint produce a very bright metallic aluminum/silver finish like the OEM rotor. You can see some of the pictures I posted in the GS classified section "Brake Caliper Decals". Rather than spraying directly on to the rotor I decided to spray into a jar and use a 1/2" brush to paint the hubs. This gave me more control as I had painted the caliper at the same time and don't want to have to mask the recently painted calipers surfaces.

Thanks for the great info Dave and ChuH. I have the G2 paint in black and silver, black for the calipers and silver for the hubs. ChuH I will check out your pics. THanks again for the help

Rich

Also, any tips on where to jack the car up with a floor jack? I have the Win kit also.

Funny, suddenly I realize I also want to paint the hats of my new rear rotors to make the front and rear match better.

Does anyone have creative ideas on how to perfectly mask off a circle around the base of the rotor so I get paint or spray only on the hat portion? Do you think the 500 degree paint will be sufficient?

I want these (for my rear):

to look more like these (for my front):

Very cool new brakes Dave.

As far as masking off the rear rotor base - just take a large sheet of paper and draw a circle on it the size of the hat. Cut the circle out and then put the paper with the hole in it over the hat and down onto the base. Tape in place if necessary and spray away.

Thanks for the good advice; my problem with doing it that method is cutting the circle... I guess I flunked arts and crafts course and know I'll have a jerky circle, won't get it even and it'll **** me off when I see it after it's painted.

Maybe I should go see if they sell a big compass at a craft store? Maybe trace the hole with an exacto?

honestly dave, a little imperfection people won't see it

or even better, if you want, paint a bit MORE on the rotor as well. after some braking the pads will eat up the paint that are excessive, leaving a perfect circle

Ahh, the trail of my 'Phase III' spring makeover is all over ClubLexus if you look deep enough, lol . I've even got 'in process' pictures on my website documenting progress until I get enough done for the next Phase to be released . Just don't post up about 'em.

I've also noticed the Eclipse and I am eagerly awaiting the results. I'm looking at it myself and will hope to learn/hear of any issues before putting mine in. I tried a couple of sources but could not find the camera on short notice for you. Hope you had better luck.

A pin in the middle of the circle, a piece of string tied to the pin and to the lower end of a pencil, and scribe away.
