Default popping noise while turning sharply in Rev.

So, I bought the 97 SC400 back in November, sometime in Jan. a light pop developed while in reverse and turning very sharply. I ignored it... Well, it has become louder as time progressed. It's only in the left front. When i straighten back out and drive forward, it seems to "pop" again like it's adjusting when i brake. I've never heard it pop(the first time!) in Drive while sharply turning....it's on in rev?...wtf?

The pop is only one..not a series of pops..

I recently replaced my warped rotors and put some new pads one. I thought it had some relationship with the warp rotors. NOpe, it still does it...that rotor change out had no effect on it.

It's not a Major problem at the moment, but i have been reading on here about lower arm popping noises and bushings..etc..

Has anyone had a similar problem?

I dont know if this is definitely correct but Ill give you my ideas.
I just bought a 95 sc400 and it had a similar sound when turning the wheel to certain angles so I brought it to my mechanic to check it out before I bought it.
When he put it up on the lift he took off all the underside plastic covers to see whats goin on in there. He had someone stay in the car and turn the wheel back and forth to get the sound goin and he diagnosed that it was the bushings that held the rack & pinion in place. They are rather large bolts that look like they must be about 16 or even 20mm, on on the left and one on the right with the same size bold on the rear of the Rack and Pinion.
While your at it, check to see if theres any leaks from the Rack.
Once again, Im an ameture to the mechanics of these cars and I dont know much about this problem but it seemed similar enough to my problem so I thought Id share.
Good Luck man!

ha, sorry....no, it just need some good tightening then the clicking type sound stopped.
But you should def look into it bc it could be related to a rack and pinion problem.

its one of your mounts most likely your engine mount , mine had the same problem and that sound is from a part of the engine hitting bare metal , put it on the lift and have your mechanic play wvth those bushings

yup sounds like a bushing problem to me. Solutions are debated.

I went under the car and checked: steering rack bushings are ok, tranny mount is ok yet, but i will replace it, it looks old, I've found out that engine mounts have a piece of rubber sticking out from very top, i pulled it out and it is a piece of what looks like a part of rubber washer of some sort, the bottom piece was ok, but i will have to replace it anyways later on since it has rubber coming out
but i really dont get is how mounts cause popping sound when steering wheel is turned to left, or is it LCA bushings? they looked ok from outside, not cracked or nothing, or do I have to take LCA out to look inside the bushing?

I know its been a while but I think I know whats goin on with that sound so I figured Id offer my ideas.
It seems that it may be the bushing in my lower control arm but I hope to find out for sure soon.

i doubt its the power steering bushings. they usually just make slop in the steering, no noise.
my car makes a metal on metal sound continuously when making 80-100% left turns.
im gonna guess suspension in my case.

in your case, popping is usually the sound a ball joint makes before it goes kaput
