difference between trd and supra brake upgrade?
I was looking around and I saw a trd big brake upgrade kit for the is300 which cost $1700 or so and it looked to me like it was the same thing as supra tt brakes. Slotted rotors and 4 piston aluminum calipers. Am I wrong?

trd kit is the same as supra TT calipers rotors etc etc
1700 is way out .. sourcr the TT calipers new from steve approx 225 each ,get some powerslot rotors ( i recc those , i dont like crossdrilled) about 250 from the front supra tt size , i use ebc green stuff pads 89 for the front and get a set of 4 goodrich lines for 125 also from steve and to match pwerslot rear slotted and ebc green stuff for the rear
my total front and rear was under $1100

actually, i beleive trd has two setup.
one of them is the same as the supra tt setup, everything the same. the one on the is300 is different coz' there is a different bracket. not sure if that explains the higher cost
they also have another monoblock setup, which is actually the calipers from the ls430. it's makde of aluminum and is a lot lighter than the supra tt caliper, which is cast iron i believe. that's also more expensive too

TRD Japan vs TRD US
TRD in japan are currently selling the Supra calipers as their entry kit and the LS430/UCF30 calipers as their performance monoblock brake kit.
The LS430/UCF30 are much lighter, but requires special brackets, that'w why this setup is more expensive.
The Supra calipers will bolt-on without special brackets, so the cost for this setup is much cheaper.
In addition, TRD US also sells rebranded Stoptech calipers as part of their US program.

and unsprung weight is big against handling that's for sure. every lb counts big

The Monoblock are a much more modern/up-to-date design than the Supra Caliper (2001 vs 1992), and is made from one block aluminium, rather than 2-pieces of metal.
If you look at the modern Brembo/Porsche calipers (996, Boxer), these are all monoblock calipers compared to the older Porsche 993 calipers.

warning also....
I might not be a reliable source for this, but.... it's worth considering.
If I remember correctly, the Supra TT setup fits the 17" stock GS wheels, or maybe with only little mods (thin spacer). I have an LS430 and those front caliper are huuuge and quite a royal pain in terms of rims fitment, or so I heard. Again, please reconfirm this.

Ow, you mean these baby???? My UCF30 (LS430 monoblock) conversion with DSR brackets cost me a pretty penny, but it's sure a nice upgrade from my old TRD setup. I think besides me, there's no one else who has gone from stock, to TRD (supra), to UCF30 (monoblock). The difference from each stage is quite significant. I highly recommend it.
If you are interested in the DSR monoblock kit, please pm HKGS300. Cheers!
