Default Brake question!

I've seen a couple of people on the forums, when doing their brakes, left the little retainer springs that are impossible to put back on off of the car. Are there any adverse affects to leaving these off? Also, too much bud light while doing my brakes made me forget to put the shims on the brake pads...any adverse affects here? Thanks in advance!

If you don't get any brake squeal, then you'll be fine. The springs and shims are there to reduce squeal.

I've driven it around a little bit, and the brakes are as silent as can be, with no bind at all...I guess they're ok then! $169 plus a little driveway labor sure beats $450 for some tool at Firestone to do my brakes!
Thanks!

Actually, those "spreader" springs are there to help keep the pads from dragging against the disk when the brakes are not applied.

I had the same problem you did, and ended up not using them in the rear. There's gotta be some kinda trick, but I have yet to read a post that explains how it is done.

BTW, I have 89K on my SC400, too!

They are not actually springs, they are V shaped metal peices that go into tiny holes on each side of the calipers.
