from my understanding only the SC300 matches up with certain Supra parts, the SC400 is a totally different vehicle engine and transmission-wise.

Strut Tower Bars increase the stiffness of the chassis and improves the car's handling properties. Any front strut tower bar made for the Supra with a flattened cross bar (non-tubular) will physically fit the Lexus SC300/400s with safe engine clearance and safe hood clearance. In order for the strut tower bar to clear the top of the motor's intake manifold, you must purchase and install four additional strut brace reinforcements (OEM spacers) (part no: 53723-24010). Another condition necessary for safety is to replace the strut-springs with suspension components that offer longer strut studs (such as the JIC SF-1 coilover). This requirement is due to the added space the strut brace reinforcements create and the need to fully thread the strut brace nuts. It is highly recommended that you do not attempt to install strut tower bars without using lengthened screw studs. With that said, Cusco and JIC both make polished and carbon fiber front strut tower bars for the SC300/400.
thank lex400sc for this valuable piece of information. check out his site if you haven't yet, www.intellexual.net, many FAQ are answered that..

If it is made for the Supra, it might not fit because the Twin Turbos intake manifold is level with the head, our intake manifolds are on top so clearance MIGHT be an issue.

I've also read that with the 400's you would need to remove the "L" emblem from the engine in order for certain STB's to clear said engine.

the STB that fits sc400 has to be flat not rounded, i think it might fit. I had the round type and it didn't fit and i bought a Cusco flat bar and that one fits w/o spacers. and the JIC is also flat and it fits w/o spacers.
hopefully that helps.
p.s. when you put the STB on the little L on your engine is going to get broken off.

i got this greddy strut bar long time ago, and still sitting around, and it didnt fit.
it was made for 94-up TT supra. it's a little different and the bar itself is tube-like, not flat....
i got it for 85.00 brand new from sp engineering a while back. test fitted it, hole were almost aligned
but the bar itself is touching the intake.....

From the pictures I've seen with STBs installed on their SC4s the bar isn't even close to the L emblem... Unless there is another L emblem further up between the intake and intake manifold?

Does anyone know if the 1998-up VVT-i 1UZ-FE sits lower than a 1992-1997? I think the 1UZ-FE may actually be lower than a 2JZ-GE/GTE but possibly a little wider. I have searched and could not find too much on the 1998-up SC400 as far as Front STB's. I am getting new Daizen control arm bushings and sway bar bushings so I figure I would either get a Cusco or JIC STB. Any input on this?

Thanks,
LiveSC400

I've heard only good things about the JIC whether you choose the CF or the aluminum. All the pictures of the 1UZ-FE I have seen with STB installed seem to clear with no effort whatsoever. So I don't know what everyone is talking about the Lexus badge on the engine being cracked because of the STB. Best way to find out is to install and close the lid slowly. If it doesn't clear the engine add some spacers but just enough so it still fits under the stock hood. I believe that the VVT-i's should have the same clearance as the regular V8s

Not sure why this bar did not fit for you but I have it installed on my '92 SC3. Maybe it's my lack of traction control bits on the throttle?

I only had to remove a small guard/bracket thingo. Otherwise it fits fine.
