Default Best Wheel/Tire size for L-Tuned setup

Hi, was wondering which would be the best wheel/tire combinations for an L-Tuned setup? I am considering purchasing the L-Tuned springs and shocks this month. As for wheels I am still undecided on what to upgrade.

I am running the stock 16" wheels. If moving up to 17" I was considering the L-Tuned Superturismo's because of the marked down priced going on from Lexus-Parts.

With an L-Tuned suspension and a 17" wheel set will there be any gpas in the fender well?

Any recommendation for 18"or 19", tire sizes and backsapcing?

Any help or recommendations will help me make a sound decision.

Thanks,

I have the setup you mentioned. 17' L-tuned with l-tuned shocks/springs.
It is way better than the stock 16. 17' l-tuned has offset of 35 compared to 50 for stock.
17' with high performance tires are definitely noisier than the stock 16 with soft tires. If you want comfortable ride, don't go anything larger than 17. Also, get 245/45/17 tire instead of 235. Factory recommendation is 235 but the diameter of 235/45/17 is smaller than 225/55/16 stock.
245 with 17 is actually same size as stock diameter.

245/45/17 sounds good. The tire size that is "right" for the car has to do with the diameter more so than the suspension. Whether or not you use the OENM, L-Tuned, other combos, or coilovers, you should still use this size if you go to 17s.

First of all, thanks guys for shedding some light and direction on this setup. Both responses will definitely help my decision.

gs4rocks, I was wondering if you had some pics of your car so I can have a visual on the end result. Also, are your 17's the Superturismo whhels?

Definitely the 245/45 is better looking then the 235/45...

Thanks again.

By the way, I have 235/45/17. I found out about the diameter size after I bought the whole wheel/tire combo. I will wait until these worn out then change to 245.

After the l-tuned upgrade, the car can corner so much better. I also have TRD STB, and LCB which probably help some. I have to be careful not to drive too fast on highway exit. We have too many pot holes after last snow. My car will out handle BMW 540 and 330 with stock suspension. I test drove both.

I use 245/45/17 mich pilot sport all season in winter and the wheel well gap is even less since the outside diameter is 25.9. Only downside is that my right front tire rubs somewhere in the fender well whenevrer I turn my wheel all the way to the left. Its ok when I turn all the way to the right. go figure

gs4rocks, Nice ride. Those are awesome pics. Thanks for the visual. They have definitely answerd all my questions. I think I will be going with that setup for now and leave me some room for future upgrades to keep things interesting. The Superturismos look cool and it still gives the GS an OEM look with a sportier side. I will be buying the components soon to throw on my GS.

How difficult is it to install this supension at home garage? I have dealt with installing other suspensions before on other cars so I have some kind of experience.

Does anyone know what type of tools will I be needing if I would attacke this project myself??

Comments welcome.

Thanks

I had mine installed at SRT, and it took them close to 5 hrs. So I wouldn't say it's a simple job. You also need a good alignment shop after the install. A local tire shop broke my camber adjustment, so I had to take it to the dealer to fix that and do alignment. I'm in the process of trying to get the money back and pay for the damage from the tire shop.

The worst thing happened this morning. I woke up to find the rear window of my Toyota Highlander smashed along with 20+ other cars in the neighborhood. It's good that I decided to put GS400 in the garage last night. I just found out that the rear window is like double of front windshield in price.

gs4rocks,

That looks really good, I'm planning on going with a similar setup.

I'm curious as to why you think the 17" L-Tuned wheels have 35 offset though, Sewell Lexus's eBay ads here for the wheel say the wheel has a 50 offset.

By the way, were these 17" hubcentric or were hubcentric rings required?
