Default Anyone measure before & after big brake upgrade

I know tons of people have done the LS and Supra upgrades. What I want to know is if anyone knows how much additional clearance was necessary for the wheels to fit over the brakes? What I mean is how much closer to your spokes the new calipers are now. I'm more interested in actual measurements. Example - The stock SC400 calipers had 15mm of clearance from the back of the wheel. After putting on the LS calipers I had 5mm of clearance. Something along those lines.

I know that there are many other factors and I'm very familiar with the requirements so don't tell me "you need a certain offset" or a "particular disk set up" or blah blah blah. That's not what I'm asking.

Thanks,

Chris

That's exactly my problem. I'm going to order some H&R spacers so I can do the brake upgrade but I'd like to have all the info so I can order the correct spacer to start with.

Thanks though. If anyone on the forum is going to do this upgrade, please take a few before and after measurements for me.

I have at least 14-15 mm to cleear stock 1994 sc400 16" wheels to LS calipers. 10 mm was to little for sure.
15 was to much. At least 14 mm I thinking.
Now have 22 mm spacers and have more than 5 mm space, say max 7 mm.

I was under the impression you could not use the stock 16" wheels (in my case, the 10-spoke "wagon wheeels") at all if you upgrade to LS calipers. But if you can use them as long as you add spacers, I may do this upgrade, too!

I'm with you on that Perry...right down to the 16 inch 10 spoke "wagon wheels"(mine are chrome, so I like them)...lol.

if someone can measure the distance between stock and the TT wheel, you can subtract about 2-3mm. With the TT wheels and the TT brakes, there is only 2-3mm of clearance IF that. I remember the first time i looked i was surprised the clearance was so low.

Also remember not all wheel faces are created equal. The shape of the face itself will dictate whether or not it can be used still. On my own car with high disc 19s, i have a full finger width of clearance between my finger and the caliper, but with many other wheels "high disc" cuts it very close. Also, when your wheel spoke curves in, you may not have any issues clearing the face of the caliper, but the curvature might cause interference with the little fins on the TT calipers. Make sure that when you evaluate the distance from stock that you also take into acout that the distance also applies much farther up such that where you had clearance near the hub you wont have at the top of the caliper outside the diameter of the rotor.

I just measured and I have about 14mm between my caliper and the face of the wheel at the closest point. According to the measurements that Jerry posted, if I add a 20mm spacer and put on the LS calipers, I should have about 5mm of clearance. Sound about right?

that right. 20 mm spacers should be ok but:
stock pins are too short a nd must be replaced for longer pins or must use spacers with own pins. your tyres will be rub at hard cornering. try 16 mm spacers if you could.

you will need 2.75" inches of space from the face of the rotor to the inside of the wheel spoke.

Well Teke, on our 10-spoke wagon wheels, there's 1.8" of clearance from the outer edge of the rotor to the rear face of the spokes, so we're looking at 1" spacers, and even more than that since the spokes curve inwards and the LS400 rotors are 12.25-12.4 inches in diameter vs. 11.65 inches for the stock SC400 rotors. So maybe 1.2" or 1.3" spacers- that's a lot, if not too much!

Thats what I needed Gazi. Thanks man. Does that include some clearance between the caliper and wheel?

thats the measurement to the caliper, 2.75" is a slight overestimate.

Yep. 2.75" leaves space between the caliper and wheel. I think I remember the actual measurement is slightly over 2.5" to the edge of the caliper from the face of the rotor.
