you said you've replaced most everything. Have you replaced the lower ball joints? Your symptoms are exactly the same that I just remedied by changing them out.

I see your car is an 03, aren't you still under bumper to bumper warranty? If so, take a tech for a ride, they should try to help you out.

I got the parts from Darrell at Sewell Lexus, and installed them today following the DIY I found on this forum. Drove her all the way home at 63 just because I could do it without the VIB. I can't promise that this is your problem, but I would bet that's what it is. BTW the hardest part of the install is getting the bolts off. I go tomorrow for the road force balance, and a four wheel alignment.
Anybody have the exact torque for the bolts in this project?

Good Luck

How many miles on your '01 when the problem became evident?

I just bought it a month ago, and it was there when I got it. 73,xxx miles. The car was owned in PA, but I have a feeling it spent some time on the streets of NY.

Don't know about mounts, but the lower ball joints come as one whole piece. They were $142 shipped for both. Unless you are regularly breaking down your front end, I would recommend paying someone to do it. The steering place up the street was going to charge $180 for installation and in hindsight I should have just had them do it.

Here are a couple of threads

Default I wish

Just spent $1500 to fix this, and no improvement!!!!

Last week - repaired bent rim and had wheels balanced.

Today I had the lower ball joints done, outer tie rods, new rotors (all OEM), brake pads, alignment.
Wheel still shakes like the devil 55-65. I'm pissed.

My mechanic wants to try "hub bearings" - whatever those are. I may try having the wheels balanced again - I have no idea where I can get road force balancing, though.

I don't know - the shop manual states other causes for steering wheel shimmy include worn shocks, and steering rack problems. I hope it's not the latter, though how to even tell!!?

Even with no wheel wobble your control arms more than likely are bad.How many miles on the car?
I'm having my control arms done and my sway bar bushings while i'm at it.

for me 1 was the cuase. and now 2 is my cause. for 3, it's till possible, unless the shop knows what they are doing and have the right equipment. i attended some lecture this past weekend on alignment and wheels, and i learned about how a wheels could be balanced all perfect on spec and computer, but you still feel the vibration

wasnt the steering wheel pretensioner problem only on 01+?
I have a 98. Where is this pretensioner and how to tighten?

actually I thought is was more the other way around....

I know the earlier models (98-?) had a bad rack design that was revised and replaced for free by many dealers. My tech at Lexus told me about it and Rominl had his swapped free via dealer.
