Driving back from Austin over the weekend something went wrong on my sc300. When I hit a sharp crack or bump in the road my car's rear bounced sideways back and forth. This is especially noticeable around curves. Thought I was going to lose control a few times when it was bad enough. I stopped and checked my tires because I thought maybe one of them was flat. They weren't.
Quesion is, does this sound like my shocks are shot? Or could it be something else? I don't want to spend $800 and find out that it's no my shocks.

if it was a solid rear axle id point right to the panhard bar... i dunno how the IRS deals with sideways motion, but id def look into the rear to see what bar/bolt/bushing broke

So it may not be my shocks? It's kinda hard to describe the swaying. It sways from side to side. It's VERY BAD on those road that have grooves that runs parallel to the road. My car's rear end just slip and slide all over the road--quite scary.
