brake bleeding on a gs400
what is the easiest way to bleed brakes on a gs400 at home with a friend pumping and holding while releasing the bleed valve......some say you still need the computer, but I've heard you can simply just start bleeding.....I already ran into the problem of the passenger's rear bleeding fine and the driver's rear not bleeding at all...what is the trick without going to the dealership???????thanks...Paul.........

ok.. got the same question... maybe i'm a bit too old school... i usually got speed bleeders for my other cars and just bled them... what is up with keeping the engine on?
1. If you don't keep the engine running, do you get some sort of error on the meter panel?
2. The Lexus Service manual says you have to have the computer set to "AIR BLEEDING" I guess this is what is being debated....
3. I'm getting the feeling that the ABS pump gets in the way of bleeding brakes... I guess its a different setup from my Ford Bronco (that has ABS too.. i guess a different method)
4. For some reason I can't find the speed bleeders for my '98 GS... is this coincidence?
Thinking of doing the brake pads and lines soon... and doing a bit of research before.
Thanks in advance.

Air bleeding in the manual assumes you have a handheld Lexus computer, if not take the advice in this thread, bleed with the ignition on or the car running otherwise you will end up with a spongy pedal.

ok - i understand that i have to.... but the big question is why? not trying to be difficult, but curious.
anyway - if i leave the ignition on, will that automatically bleed the brakes, or do i still have to do the "two man job" ?

not unless you have the Lexus computer to plug into the obdII harness otherwise you have to leave the car on to activate the rear brake pump still a two man job. pump, pump, pump, hold down brake pedal, open bleeder valve, repeat make sure you dont run out of fluid in the resevoir.

ok so in short - dish out 30-40K for the lexus computer or suck is up and turn the ignition on to get rid of the mushy, mashy feeling.
can't seem to find the make of speedbleeders for our cars... anyone know what the thread and size is?
