Default Wheel Fitments... What Direction to Take

Hello,

First of all I've read through the Official Wheel and Tyre Fitment Guide, this thing is most helpful and it's helped me gain a better understanding on the wheel offsets but I do have some questions. Also, thanks to everyone on CL I've given up on keeping my car stock and I'm trying to save up for some nice wheels

Now I'm also thinking about getting BBK up the front (either Supra RZ or UCF20 Celsior 4-pots) BUT I won't be able to afford to do both at the same time. So I was thinking of getting wheels first since they'll make the most impact on the look of the car. I know what sizes of the wheels I want to get, but what has left me curious is the offset. And no more copies for me, I'm doing this car some justice.

Now, the questions that have been bugging me...
* As I can't afford to get BBK and wheels at the same time, If I get the wheels for a BBK offset, will they be able to clear the stock brakes or will I have to roll around on the stockers, get the BBK then mount the new wheels?
* I am planning on lowering the car by about 1" all around to lose some fender gap but still be able to get into driveways (mostly mine lol). I've had my old Soarer dumped around 2.5" before, and with +38mm the wheels were way too sunken in. I want wheels to sit flush with the guards when it's lowered. Can anyone recommend me some offsets please? The ones that I find would suit it best are 18x8.5"/+40mm front (Supra BBK fitment) and 18x9.5"/+38mm rear (stock rear calipers).

If there are some threads about this please post them up, I wanna have a good read of them and all suggestions are appreciated!!!

Thanks guys,

Jose

If you can clear bigger brakes, you will clear stock brakes.

The front you can do up to a 9" with a 245/40, anything right around 40mm is a good fit with no problems.

The rear a 9.5 or 10 with a 275/35 around 42-44 should be no problem. Anything less and you might need to do some minor work on the fender lip. No big deal but won't be a straight bolt-on if you lower the car any considerable amount.

I you are looking for flush wheels, those offsets are nowhere near "flush".

18x9 +20 run a higher disc for brake clearence and a 225/40 tire it'll fit just fine.

Disc determines brake clearence not offset. So for example, if you were going to run Work wheels you would need at least an "A" disc to clear brakes, and higher if you plan on running bigger brakes than stock supra calipers.

18x10+20-30 (depending on tire size) w/ the lowest disc for max lip. 245/40 tire will fit fine with the lower offset, 255 should fit fine with +30. Staying with the Work example and "O" disc is prefferable out back, since the brakes are small.

Goodluck!

EDIT: If your set on 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 subtract 6mm from the offsets listed to get the same fitment on the 8.5/9.5 as the 9/10 combo.

Also- to make those wheels/offsets looks right you'll def need more than a 1" drop.

Hey guys thanks for your input

The wheel sizes that I got were from the Work wheels website, so I was judging off that.

And yeah I know about the car looking like a rollerskate when not dropped, we'll see though because I drive really crap roads (my old Soarer was dropped 2.5" and it bottomed out on everything and couldn't get over speedhumps etc... ).

quick question.. will I have fitment/rubbing issues with this setup (stock SC400 brakes):
17x9 at 20 offset wearing 235/40ZR17

i am getting tein coilovers as we speak so adjusting the height wont be an issue.

thanks

you can go with the specs jzz30t suggested, those will work great..
also, you can mount your wheels with bbk clearance, they will clear your stock brakes, and then when you get your bbk you can mount it

i'm running 18x10 +24 and 18x11 +28 with bbk clearance all around
when i had the wheels mounted, i was running stock brakes

after i got the wheels, i installed my bbk

This is JZZ30TT sorry i forgot to log out -

no, not even close. The front will look a lot more flush than the rear though, I would suggest a spacer for the rear, to make it look even.

Are you guys with the aggressive specs (x10, x11, offsets in the teens and twenties) running those without fender, tire, camber mods? If so, I am really surprised at what the SC can handle stock. If not, please also post info on the mods required as many new members would come in and think they can just bolt on those sizes.

JZZ30TT again-

Anyone who is thinking about running agressive offsets/ widths should be prepaired to roll fenders at the very least and run a slightly stretched tire. It's really not that hard to roll fenders infact it can be done in about 10-20min perside with little to no paint cracking. I actually was able to PULL my fenders out about 10-15mm further out from stock with NO paint cracking., but again this has a lot to do with how old the paint is and how brittle it is.
