I own a 99 GS 400, and i was thinking about slowly but surely purchase the L Tuned package and i was going to start with the suspension, and i was wondering is it possible for a person that has never installed anything but a license plate holder to install this kit?

SC,

anything is possible...but when it comes to springs and shocks, if your tech exp is limited to putting on license plate, i highly recommend you to go to a tech guy, or a shop. have you ever heard of "spring compressor"? if not, def spend the few hundred and ask someone to do it for you.

nothing personal, just some safety siiues are involved.

l-tuned stuff is great for the price, look and function. i am sure you know where to get them at a good deal, right?

will

If warranty isn't a factor, definately go to an outside REPUTABLE shop to install the suspension.

One of the steps is to compress the spring, which requires special tools (can be rigged) but the energy stored in the spring CAN cause serious damage.

The other factor is the 4wheel alignment that is necessary after the suspension change/modification.

Take it to a pro.

The answer is 'no'. It's too dangerous and you run the risk of messing up your car too.

My dealer charged $440 for install and alignment and the springs/shocks were $530 I think, so for less than $1K you get a MUCH improved ride.

You might find an independent shop but I got my dealer to do it so they would a) fix it if there was ever a problem (given their reputation I know they're going to do that) and b) never question that some other problem was related to the install done by someone else.
