Question Lowering/Handling IS300

Hey guys new to the site and allredy LOVE it ! .. I just got my 02 IS and wanted to lower it a tad bit .. i was thinking just 1" or 1.5" MAX .. nothing more and also wanted to stay on a low budget mabie around 100-400$ ... But here is my main concern .. I would love to keep the same ride quality and the handling or if possible Gain better handling ..Should i go with Springs,Coilover, Or springs & shocks ... if i just get springs how long can i go on these stock shocks .. I am a dailey driver and not into racing or any agressive driving but some times i like to go fast and take some nice corners lol ... Also what do you guys suggest as far as gaining more handling ... Sway bars, Strut bars, For the handling gains i have a budget of 600$ .. Any ideas? .. i would greatly appreciate it -alwin

coilover is the best choice imho, followed by springs and shocks.

^^^
i agree - go coilovers if you can afford it
but $600 budget is not going to get you very far
springs + shox = $400 (used) to $700 (new)
sways - around $200-300
stb - $150-250?

good luck..!

Question

Thanks For all the replys .. but no no i have like 400 JUST for THE Suspencion ... THEN ANOTHER 600 for to some handling work ... so 400+600 total 1g .... also why would i get coilovers if im never gooing to be adjusting the height on it ? i thought the only benifit to coilover vs sping was you can adjust the height on it ? -al

Coilovers benefit in more ways than just lowering. They also improve the dampeneing and rebound of the actualy shock. YOu could get similar improvements with springs but you would also have to get new shocks to go with the springs if you really wnated to improve the handling, in a similar manner to coilovers.

Coilovers give you both the spring and the "shock" as a matched system.

and you have to get matching springs/shocks to perform close to that of coilovers. i had springs on my old cars before, and then i changed to coilovers. and i have been in cars with springs/shocks. it's not even close

I'll let the IS crowd chime in but there is always old reliable Tein for coilovers.

if you want tein and as close to stock ride quality as possible, tein cs should be the one, price tag, close to 1300

H&R is a good start if you want to get something a little cheaper. Drop is about 1.5. But I have friends with Tein Coilovers and those are nice as well. I still have my H&R's and I really like them. I'm on the stock shocks and have been on those for 3 years now and still have not had a problem.. Lexus shocks still runnin strong!!!!
