Default E-brake light problem

I think this would be the right place to post this. Move mods if im wrong. The problem im having is when i downshift or when i shift really hard or fast my e-brake light comes on for a second (or a few) but the e-brake itself isnt moving and i've tested it by holding it down after shifting and even had my cousin shift while i held it with my right hand and it STILL comes on...what could be doin this??..thanks

Check your brake fluid, the light will let you know when you're low too.

i'd check for loose wire(s)
try thumping around the e-brake handle and console around the shifter

btw, is it auto or 5speed?

loose like not clipped together very well or soldering came apart in the wire or wire rubbing on bare metal (vibration) and rubbing through the shielding

most likely what you got there is either a intermittent short or a sensor going bad

that's what i'd think if it was my car
if you can wait and see if anyone else put's their 2 cents in, maybe i'm wrong
i'd hate to have you tear up the center console for nothing

yeah i will wait til i get more input b4 i go rippin stuff apart..hopefully someone has had this happen to them and be able to fix it...its not really important ( i think) just kind of annoying to see the "BRAKE" light come on when you shift..

yea i have a 5speed and i got the same problem. it started out jsut when i shifted really hard, and it got worse until its on constantly. i almost positive its jsut the sensor, im in iraq right now and never messed with it, but im pretty sure all you have to do is find the sensor wire or watever in the ebrake handle part and adjust it so its not so sensitive, i think its just loose because i can mess around and make it flicker or go off. shouldnt be a big thing

Your problem is most likely low brake fluid.
