Default Supra brakes...necessary?

Have any of you actually needed the extra two pistons up front? I wish I had them on already as someone pulled out in front of me and I almost crashed them. I didn't think I was going to stop. I am ordering the stuff this weekend for an upgrade.

Its up to you if its necessary. I have the TT brake setup. Many others have the Brembo GT/ Rotora 6 pot/ etc. Is it necessary? Depends on who you ask but you will stop faster.

Big brakes are not going to help you much (if any) in that type of situation... the stock GS brakes are actually one of the highest rated of any car - competing with Porsche and others. Brake 'feel' is terrible IMO in the stock brakes and you just have to mash 'em hard to get them to grab and haul you down from speed.

You can upgrade your OEM brakes with better performance pads, stainless steel lines and good synthetic fluid like ATE or Motul and get a healthy and relatively inexpensive upgrade. Big brakes are going to help your brakes keep from fading if you're on the track or road course, etc more than any other benefit (other than looking very very cool ).

PS we've got a sub-forum for brakes where posts like this should go, I'm moving it there

PPS if you DO decide to get a Supra TT brake upgrade you will very likely need new front wheels with high disk clearance to fit them

Just got new wheels. I have somewhere around an inch and a half of clearance between the caliper and spokes. Hopefully it's enough. Sorry about posting in the wrong section.

Not a problem The TT brakes are really BIG, that may not be enough room and you'll end up putting on spacers.

Any idea what the clearance needed is? Between the rotor surface to wheel or factory caliper to wheel? I might just have to try and hope.

they are the same, trd units are just supra tt. there is another version of trd that's monoblock.

if you have aftermarket wheels, especially if heavier, bbk will help, you need more power to stop the wheels. especially in my case with 20s, the difference is huge. also, like dave said, the biggest difference is not about stopping you faster. in most cases it's to avoid brake fade
