Default Why is my brake light on after swapping pads?

Just installed 4 stoptech rotors and new pads. Do I need to reset the ECU on the car in order to get the BRAKE light to go off?

Yes and? The brake light comes on for low fluid and/or if you left the cap off the reservior. Thus, you need to check the fluid and make sure theres enough in there and that the cap isnt sending a false signal.

Oh wait....I mean, just put the ebrake down.....duh.

Seriously man, the car is a 6spd so everytime I drive it the e brake hasto be engauged and disengauged. Dont you think I know to put the e brake down and see if the BRAKE light goes off. The fluid level it maxed out

Huh I thought that light was only for when you had the e-brake pulled.
Reset ECU? It shoudln't have anything to do with it but hey never know.

Seriously man, you need to stop taking things so seroiusly....I was joking, thus the reason the statement was sitting down there all by itself.

It also comes on if you have low fluid. There is a sensor in the fluid reservoir and the idea is that when the pads wear down, the caliper piston has to extrude further, thus draining fluid from the reservoir into the caliper. Then when the "brake" light comes on that means you need to replace your pads. Too bad most people are too stupid to realize how it works and they just top off their fluid from time to time and then when you replace the pads you push the caliper pistons back in and fluid comes overflowing from the reservoir.

Just had the same issue. Solution is easy/stupid.

Unplug sensor from side of resevoir (located lower drivers side).

Turn car on.

Plug sensor back in.

Viola - light is reset.

Figuring this out was dumb luck for me.

Im so glad i came across this thread. I just swapped in brand new rotors/pads and s/s brakelines on all four corners this afternoon. I had trouble with the rear rotors, and luckily i came across numerous threads regarding the removal of the rear. Came in handy, especially after the job because my e-brake light came on and we had no idea why. We wasted almost 2hrs, removing my rims and playing around with the adjustment, but the light was still on? We totally disregarded the fact that we earlier bled the brake fluid on the car and forgot to top off the reservoir to MAX level.

Thanks a million guys....wouldn't know what i would have done without knowledgeable guys like you on CL!
