Default Looking for Rear Pad install instructions

I've searched the forum but I must be blind, does anyone have any links to installation instructions for 1992 SC400 Rear Brake Pads, also I may do the rotors soon as well so would be looking for instructions on how to install those as well. Does anyone know what size torx wrench I will need?

you do not need a torx wrench to change the brake pads. if you feel like you do please stop what youre doing before you open the caliper and break something

to remove the caliper from the bracket i believe it is a 14mm regular socket. remove the 2 outermost bolts on the backside of the caliper. after you slide those out, you can wiggle-jiggle the caliper off the bracket exposing the pads. remove the spacer pins from the top of the pads and remove them.

to remove the rotor make sure the ebrake is down. after you remove the caliper youll have to remove the bracket (U-shaped bottom part of the caliper). that is also a 14mm set of 2 bolts. take out those two bolts and the bracket will come off easily. The hard part of the job is getting the rotor off the hub depending on the last time they came off. i like using wd40 and a rubber mallet wrapped in a towel. gently tap it from all directions and spray wd40 into every orifice possible until it gets loose.

to reinstall everything after rotors are resurfaced:
1: install new rotor and hold it in place with 1 or 2 lugnuts
2: reinstall caliper bracket
3: rough up the contact surfaces of the new pads by scraping on the concrete or against each other.
4: apply disc brake quiet or whatever you like to use one the METAL BACK of the pad, not the contact surface along with the caliper shims and allow to dry a little bit
5: slide pads into place in the caliper brackets and reinstall the wire spacer
6. recompress the caliper pistons back into the caliper all the way
7: slide the caliper over the pads and reinstall the bolts
8: bleeds the brake system

follow your preferred brake pad break in method and enjoy =)
if any of the steps was unclear just let me know and ill try to clarify

A torque wrench is needed.. 3/8 drive for the 20 Ft Lb used for tightening the 14mm caliper mounting bolts..
Additionally, a 1/2 drive with a 21mm is needed for the lug nuts...

There is no way you can insure the bolts are tightened evenly and correctly without torque wrenches as they're measuring tools...

youre right. i took the torque specs for granted

the wheel lug nuts should also be torqued to 76 ft lbs

Thanks alot for the info, I got the rear pads done on the drivers side, but couldn't get the rear pads on the passengers side as I couldn't get the two bolts loosened to get the caliper off. They are more akward to get at. On the drivers side I had to use a hammer to pound on the wrench to get it loosened, but on the passengers side you have to come at it from the other angle and I can get enough force on the hammer to loosen the bolts.

invest in a breaker bar =)
they are absolutely essential to not risking rounding out your screws by hitting a wrench with a hammer. slow even torque will turn the bolt without ruining it.
