Brake Dust
I've read all the post about excessive brake dust. I haven't purchased mine yet but was hoping it is not as bad as my Mercedes. I really love the new IS. I realize brake dust means good brake performance. I just don't want to deal with brake dust on both cars.
Is there less dusty pads available?

Are they available for the 06 model now? Unless the pads are the same as earlier models, they usually aren't available until mid year.
If anyone out there replaced theirs already with leass dusty ones, I'd like to know if they squeak. How is it on the rotors? Did braking performance suffer?

I spoke to Zeckhausen Racing -- a BMW brake specialist and Axxis brake-pads distributor last week and they said that it usually takes about one year after a car is launched for aftermarket brakepads to be sold. He also said that the 2IS brake pads have already been drawn by that (i forgot -- some regulatory body that creates the std specs for brake pads) and now only thing to be done is for manufacturers to make them. Meanwhile my aftermarket wheels are collecting a bunch of dust, espceially behind the spokes where I cant wash them... Does anybody know a easy way to clean this area?

Yep, I'm going through the same thing with my Mercedes. I'm looking at replacing the pads to EBC Greenstuff when it becomes available. I guess, I'll just have to keep my eye out for replacement pads for the IS.

clean your wheels once a week and you'll be fine. if you aren't cleaning your car once a week (at least a hose off and rubdown) then u aren't being responsible already.

As I mentioned on another post, I take a soft cloth to mine almost every day when I retire her in the garage for the evening (front wheels daily, rear wheels every other day). This takes about 2 minutes, prevents heavy dust build up and she's good to go in the AM. My Mercedes is also bad for brake dust but nothing like the IS. New pads in the future for sure.

I agree that once a week is sufficient for me, but I drive basically highway to work (not a whole bunch of stop and go unless there is a wreck). If you are in stop and go a lot it might need to be more frequent to keep up with the dust.

Well, I get my car washed once a week, even twice a week is good enough for what you guys are talking about. I am talking about behind the spokes -- the inner part of the wheel getting dirty... I know it does not matter for most people, but for people who plan to switch their wheels in the winter or perhpas sell them sometime will have to deal with a mess....
