Default new rotors do i need to get new pads too?

i just got some rotors; bought new pads too but when i compared them to my old pads, the old ones have more than half left compared to the new ones.

im wondering will it be ok to reuse my old ones and just bed them to the new rotors?

edit: decided to use my old ones...will keep the new pads for future brake job.

In general when replacing rotos, you should change your pads as well.

well i got new rotors that were slotted.. i figured the slots will cut the pads so bedding the pads to the new rotor will be ok.

usually when you change your rotors you're supposed to change the pads too... not sure though - you might be iight usin' your old ones.. but the problem may be that they are adjusted to your old rotors..

I would use only new pads with new rotors, personally.

I'd save the half-used pads for when the new set I installed wear out (use them on the same rotors if they are still in good shape).

Correction: Actually, I'd pitch the old used pads in the garbage... pads are not that expensive, and I have issues re-installing used-up parts. To me, it's like putting used tires on a car. It's okay if you're trading it in, otherwise I won't do it.

You'll still need to re-bed the new rotors even with the used pads.
From StopTech:

"Many people make the mistake of thinking that because they have a used set of pads in the past that the system does not need re-bedding when they are re-installed. Remember, the same material must be adhered to the rotor as the pad running against it for effective braking. Race pad material must be removed prior to street use.

Since you're not as likely to overheat the rotors on the street after a track event, over time the street pads will remove and replace the track pad material on the rotors naturally. However, the best solution where street pads are being put back into service after a track day is to follow the original bed-in procedure for the street pads after the swap. "

well i've already bedded the old pads to my new rotors...i've also driven highway speeds and braked no pulsing what so ever.... as of right now im too lazy to take off my wheels and replace the pads with the new ones.

also when i said their was more than half left... the new pads measured aprox 15mm while the worn ones were aprox 10mm
