Default Drove to Palm Springs for Memorial Day Weekend.

Averaged 27mpg over the entire weekend and we were getting over 30mpg according to the computer on the freeway. We had the car trunk loaded up with stuff and it was just me, my wife and our 4 year old son in the car.

The car was very comfortable the entire trip and a lot of fun to drive. Only had it over 80 a few times. Most of the driving on the freeway was at 75mph. We put about 400 miles on it between Friday and yesterday afternoon.

Needless to say, I'm impressed with the fuel economy of the IS250.

I'm not. I can average 28mpg in my 350 without much trouble on my commute, which is a variety of 2-lane/highway cruising at anywhere from 55-75mph.

Considering the HP difference, I'm content

Yeah I did a 300 mi trip this weekend too and averaged 29+mpg! The same trip in my old Honda Accord HYBRID I averaged just over 31mpg. It was crazy to see the gas gauge at the half way mark and see 300 miles on the trip odometer!! I would have never guessed it could be possible with 306hp.

With the oxygenated California gasoline we get here I remain impressed. I saw 34mpg while on the freeway. Only 240 miles of the over 400 miles we drove this weekend were freeway miles and I was averaging 70-75mph the entire time with a few blasts into the high 80s and a fairly steep pass to go through.

I've heard of people getting 18mpg city with the IS350 here in CA.

We got E10, 10% Ethanol, here in Hawaii and could only muster 24 mpg in my 250. As time goes on car is getting lower gas mileage, currently 23.7 mpg. I guess I waste too much gas, and time, sitting in traffic.

Your problems aren't with the gas. The fuel blend in CA is exactly the same as everywhere else (i.e. it has MTBE in it, to be replaced in the coming months with ethanol), it's just lower octane.

So yes, there's the potential that your car is making a VERY slight bit less HP than those of us that have access to 93, but not enough to impact your mileage substantially. The biggest factors are your right foot and the roads/traffic you drive in.

I noticed that around here all the pumps now have 10% ethanol. Anyone know how that may or may not affect the cars performance?
