?? Grease leak under rear shock ??
Painted calipers yesterday, and noticed on the back drivers side (1998 SC3) a golf ball size grease ball. It was all over bottom of the shock, by where the lower bolt goes thru the shock, and on the surrounding suspension components, even some on the inside of the rim. Definitely grease. Plus, my car seems to be really stiff on that drivers side rear corner, and it seems to bottom out.....not sure if its suspension bushing (one just under the shock lower mount) or the shock itself. I think its the bushing that broke, but I thought they were rubber, and didnt have grease packing??? I forgot to take pics dammit....

Leaky shocks would result in some oil residue. Never seen a "grease ball" like what is being described as a result. I would check all the boots on the drive shafts as mentioned above and all your ball joints, as they are also covered by a small rubber boot and packed with grease. This might also explain why your suspension might feel harsher. If I recall correctly, the rear lower control arm the shock sits on has a ball joint where it connects to the rear hub/spindle. I'd start looking there.

Resurrection!
I have the same stuff happening on both sides! This is after I installed my shocks last weekend. It looks like it's coming from the drive shafts' rubber boots! At first I thought it was a small tear on the ball joint rubber boot, one that you can tire patch or some easy fix for a very minute tear, but I went back in there to adjust my coilovers and it looked like there was a greasy explosion! grease literally all over the place, most of them like how it was described in the original post. And it is on both sides of the rear. I will post pics of it when I get a chance, but right now what am I looking at repair wise? Nothing is creaking yet as I think this just happened very recently and there might still be enough grease lubricating whatever it came from. But I need a solution to this ASAP!
