Coilovers vs Springs
Coilovers = suspension + springs which allows for a smoother ride + height adjustment. Runs for about $1200 +
Springs are for height adjustment only. Costs about $300
Is that it? What are the benefits of getting coilovers if i want to lower my ride? Isn't the built in suspension enough? Is it worth the extra 900?

The coilover is better choice adjustable shocks low to high. It fits driving style like normal or sport push a buttom! The spring dropping car's height by between 1-2 inches most by aftermarkets lowering springs. It rides little firmer than stock any cars.

It all depends on the coilovers. The common differences between springs and coilovers are the adjustability in terms of height on the coilovers. Some coilovers (not all) will give you the ability to adjust the dampening of the shocks/struts to make the ride feel softer or smoother (street/track if you're so inclined.) However, even with the damping adjustability, this doesn't mean that all of these coilovers will give you a setting where it will feel softer than stock as the stiffness of the springs will have a say on this.
Kinda confusing. Hope I've made sense.

Hey Jewel!
It depends a LOT on the brand of springs or coilovers you purchase what your ride quality will be and how good the product will be after some use. But generally speaking, the coilovers are for the most part customizable in terms of ride height, shock stiffness/softness and even spring rates. One drawback to the coilovers is that you have to rebuild the shocks after a couple of years in order to keep the ride quality they provide.
The springs will lower your car to a predetermined height, which will vary depending on the brand you purchase. Some springs require you to change your shocks if you want to improve the ride quality of the vehicle. Some manufacturers claim that you can use their springs with the OEM shocks and you will be OK. What also happens with springs is that sometimes it turns into a "trial and error" process because although companies provide you with an approximate height for them , sometimes the car will look lower in the rear or front or even the sides, so it turns it into a gamble when you buy them sometimes.
Now, keep also in mind that some springs will start to lose their rates over time (in both of the above) and will start to drop little by little and the ride quality might be affected. Some companies guarantee their product so if this happens you can get a replacement, others will say "too bad, sooo sad..sorry" and won't give you anything (like Eibach did with me )
As you can see, both products have their advantages/disadvantages when it comes to price/performance. It all depends on the budget you have determined for this purpose. If you don't care too much about customizing the ride quality, and just want to lower your car with a predetermined spring rate, then do your research and get some springs with a set of good quality shocks (this could run you close to $800). If you want to have more customization control over your ride height/quality, then get the coilovers and you will be set (this will run you $1,000.00+). As you can see, the difference in price is not that much, unless you decide to just get the springs.
Hope this helps you make a better decision... let me know if you have any questions..
