Tanabe Air Cobra Hybrid Coilover Suspension
#25
The Air Cobra was developed by us back in late 2002 and it has been relatively successful in Japan predominantly in the step wagon and luxury wagon market.
It is a true height adjustable coilover suspension, with respectable spring rates and damping rates (serves a performance function) while the airbag portion (aesthetic function) of the system features a very durable airbag that was jointly developed with Dunlop. The airbag actually has small springs inside as a safety measure so that even in the event that they deflate, the car is completely functional.
We have never established pricing for the US on this suspension, but the price of such a system would be in the 4-5K range.
The only applicable Lexus models this would be for is the GS and LS.
Unfortunately, other vehicle models and applications such as the SC (Sorry Lee) would take quite a bit of time for proper R&D and finalization of a production piece (~8months)
If we continue to see such positive interest in this suspension, we will look into the possibility of bringing these in through one of the CL vendors!

what do i lose/gain from running this setup when compared to a full coilover setup, or air suspension?
