Is there anything we can do about all this excessive brake dust?

i had the same prob. a couple of yrs ago with C230 Benz. the only way to get rid of the brake dust collecting on your rim is to get new brakes. for some reason the factory brakes does that on some cars

Actually, try Pledge with extra moisturizers. It works well and leaves your rims looking nice.

Cool

It gets on my nerves too! Although I will say it is not as bad now (4,000 miles) as it was. I think that is because I spend just as much time cleaning the wheels as I do the whole car. The wheels have their own bucket, water, and soap, a wheel brush, toothbrush, and sponge to be cleaned with. I think what made the biggest difference is that I get in between the spokes to the wheel well (I guess that is what you call it) with the sponge and toothbrush and get all the gunk out of there all along the sides. Seems to keep it from leeching onto the rims as quickly as it used to.

I'm not sure what type pads are on the Is but I read switching to ceramic helps
since the dust is lighter in color.

Gotta be careful with ceramics, though, since they eat rotors more quickly.

yeah just start carving the road like you're skiing..that should slow you down sufficiently...and scare everyone on the road, and possibly cause accidents.

Don't want to use any type of chemicals on my rims, so that's out. The switching of brake pads was an idea I had, maybe that will work.

How many miles on your 2006 IS250? Does it seem to pull either way when braking.

You might have Lexus check for air in the system, possibly causing brake pad drag. Wouldn't hurt to recommend to have the system bled, then you're sure.

Changing out the brake pads may effect the brake rotor warranty.

Understand, pad dust is excessive if your driving fast and braking hard, rather than gentle braking till the brake pads and rotors settle in. A review of your driving habits may also be helpful.
