Default advice, opinions on leaking shock please

I'm currently running a full L-Tuned setup on my '98 GS400 but now one of the front shocks is leaking. The L-Tuned setup has been perfect for my needs but the L-Tuned shocks are discontinued and I've been unable to find any anywhere. So my dilemma, do I replace the front shocks (including the leaking one) with KYB which are supposedly L-Tuned by another name, with Bilstein, or should I replace all 4 shocks so they're all the same? Is it advisable to use different shocks front and back, has anyone done so and if so what was your experience with that setup? Thanks for any help, Chris.

I have done that a few times on my "back in the day autocross, daily driver car". Nothing bad will happen if you replace one. It is recommended that you at least replace them in pairs though. I would recommend Bilstein HD shocks anyway.

it's better for the front to be a little stiffer anyways, so if you're on a budget, I'd get 2 new up front.

Always replace shocks in pairs, so get 2 front shocks, which should be the same brand and type per axle.

I have leaking passenger front side shock on my RX. My uncle and I work on the weekends with certain vehicle and I can tell you we have seen plenty of different type shocks for front/rear. In fact, about 10 to 15% of the cars that run at my track run different shocks on the front and rear.

I got mine from www.ajusa.com
I still got my OEM 17" Rims and the ride is not that much harsher than stock. I do feel the road more. However, the infamous highway float is gone. The car feels solid very much to my liking.

how exactly would you classify a leaking shock/strut?

my question is, so if a perfect shock/strut is not leaking, there is not a single bit of fluid around the shaft of the shock/strut? i always thought it was normal to have a tiny bit of residue, since the shaft does go in the chamber and gets fluid on there, and comes out from rebound.

can anyone educate me on this? thanks.

I could not tell at all visually. The bounce test didn't do anything for me either. Everything seemed like it was fine. Once I took it out, compressed the shock, it did not come back up at all. The other front shock took 2min to come up, and it still didn't do it all the way.
