Usually shops will charge you about $80-100 for the job.

If you dont mind driving 30 minutes down to westminster, I can do it for half the price. I've done many balljoint installs for CL members with reference to back it up if not, visit the socal forum. We have a large network of socal members with shop recommendations.

hmm i always hear about changing ball joints. but never did it. i got a 95 gs with over 250,000 miles on it. no weird noises or anything. but im assuming i should get them changed. and that price u gave isnt to bad.

Never done 1st gen before, but if it's anything like the 2nd gen, it should be easy But it's usually the 2nd gen that are prone to balljoints failure. I haven't heard much about the 1st gens breaking.

Anytime the balljoints is not ideal, it's never safe. Do you get clunking/clicking noise everytime you hit a bump?

Just ordered these for my 01 GS430 with 100k miles. Hope this clears up all the ambiguity.

Now I need to know where to take the car to have this worked on in the So Cal (City of Industry/Diamond Bar) area and how much will it cost do do both, thanks.
Hey b2bomber. I live in the City of Industry/ Diamond Bar area also. Were you able to find a mechanic that can install the ball joints and tie rods for a reasonable price?

Default Is this symptom the Ball Joint?

Hey all, I'm brand new to the forum, and from what I've read so far, it seems like I definitely need lower ball joints.

2001 GS300, 97k miles: The main symptom is a sort of shaking felt in the steering wheel driving over bumps, or hitting pot holes in the road. I've also heard some of the "clunks" that have been described in other threads when I'm driving slowly over speed bumps. Finally, when I'm driving over 65 mph, when I tap the brake pedal, the wheel shakes/shimmys. At all other speeds, the brakes are smooth, sound, and no shaking, so I don't think I'm dealing with warped rotors here. Could this second symptom be related?

I've heard it could be ball joints, tie rod ends, or even struts.

Thoughts?

It's very possible that it's your balljoints. Regardless, change them out because they're about due at that mileage. Eventually you need to change them so you might as well do it now otherwise you will face a very scary damage later on.

Turned out the struts were shot, especially on the drivers side. We got the car up in the air and the ball joints are still fine at this point. I plan on changing them, but I've got some maintenance due on my 99 RX that needs to come first.

That sure was the problem though. The car drives 100% better.
