I would listen to lexforlife. He's replaced just about every bushing on the GS and knows his stuff.. My car is just under 60k and the ball joints were loose as hell and i replced them myself.. The dealer is ripping you off bro.. I got the pair for 110.00 + 10.00 shipping from Sewell Lexus.. The dealer is an easy 300+ for parts and labor.. GL..

yeah i am going to take them back on saturday, and take a print out of the sewell price. if they honor the price, then i'll just keep them. if not, then i'll return them and buy another set! so if the car feels loose then they are probably worn? it tends to wander a bit, i know i need an alignment too.

thats for a LS400. I would imagine the torque specs would be different from our GSs...but I went to the dealer today to ask for specs and I quote the Lexus mechanics

"just torque it down a little bit, its not an important part like the engine"

uhh...

I am planning to do a DIY write up after I do my ball joints and tie rods sometime this week - whenever the parts are delivered. I will make sure to have all the torque specs for the GS. I have a '99 GS4, so you may want to double check to make sure the specs are the same for other 2nd gen GS's. I will have pics and everything. Supposedly the LS and GS are almost identical, but it doesn't hurt to have the GS specific one up as well.

Upper balljoints rarely go back. There is simply not a lot of stress on the upper balljoints relative to the lower balljoint.

If you're unsure of where the noise is coming from, bring your car into the shop.

How long have you had your car and how many miles do you have? Have you ever replaced the balljoints? If not, then replace them anyways regardless of how good you think they are. That's the first step I would do.

Mission accomplished. You would not believe how much the handling has improved just with that simple change.

The ball joints themselves don't look too bad, but you can clearly see the play in them. Don't wait to get these things changed. They really DO make a difference, if nothing else, they will improve the steering feel and response when cornering.

Got a 99 GS400 with 120k miles and all stock front end. has anyone ordered from www.******************.com ? Seems like a fair price for 'OEM' ball joints. http://replacement.autopartswarehous...Joint&dp=false

I think your best bet is to get them from Sewell Lexus.. I got them for 110.00 + 10.00 shipping.. Alot better prices compared to autoparts warehouse.. I've ordered many parts from them including TTElip, and roof spoiler.. there a great company with great sevice..
