Default Brake Pads

Question: I have a 2006 IS 250 and my brakes are sweaking when I come to a complete stop. I have 18,000 miles, is this normal for this mileage? Are they due for new pads this soon?

Have experienced many problems with the brakes (front). Last week, I had the pads replaced for the second time along with the rotors resurfaced. The SA stated that he has had many complaints from 2G IS owners. He is expecting something from Lexus HQ in the coming months - till then nothing.

I have about 20K on mine and had the pads replaced twice and the rotors replaced once.

Wow, twice. So was this an out of pocket expense for you? I'm going to call and make an appointment today. Once you here something back from the SA could you please post? thanks!

I have 8K on my IS and have brought it in because the brakes make a real high skeaking when coming to a complete stop. The SA said it was "glaze" on the brakes. Too bad the next day the brakes still squeaked. Let me know if you hear anything else.

Thanks!

this has been discussed in numerous other threads. one solution was to find an open and SAFE area where you can brake from 60-5-60-5 to get rid of the glaze. i haven't found a safe spot to do it yet, but i do brake hard sometimes going into stops. im at less than 12K right now and it started at about 10K. sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't so i don't even wanna deal with the dealership...

I am now on 22k miles and the squeak started at about 16,000. I went in the dealership and asked them about it and they replied by saying because it is a high performance brake, there are more friction and the squeaks are normal. They didnt tell me to replace it or anything. It is pretty annoying at times though.

I went out with one of my friends today who is a car expert and they didn't make any noise . I think I might just leave it alone unless the noise gets louder. I don't want to deal with the dealership either.

Luckily not. They covered both under "warranty". As soon as I hear something, I will be a posting...

If i am correct, driving for a short distance with your parking brake on should also get rid of this "glaze" well at least on the rear rotors.

No, it will do nothing to break the glaze. The parking brake is a drum brake inside the rear rotor on each side. Leaving it on will only make the disc hotter than it should be.

How hard are you suppost to brake from the 60-5-60-5 mph? The 350 has incredible brakes that I don't think it'd be wise to slam them as hard as you can.

Yup. As hard as you can without engaging the ABS. The point is to "bed" a little bit of pad material onto the rotors. However, I'm pretty sure that once the rotors are glazed, the only way to fix it is to resurface them. You can't bed pads onto glazed rotors, it'll just keep replacing the glaze.

Anyone knows if the stock pads are Semi-metallic or ceramic?

Went in today to get front pads changed cuz I could hear the squealer LOUD at stops. SA told me that I still had 50% pads left at 23K miles. They said the squealing and clunking was normal. But he did tip me off that the company was having problems with the front brakes, not necessarily from the performance but more from all the unusual noises coming from them. They did turn my rotors for free and detailed my car, so it wasn't an entirely wasted Saturday morning.
