1. Tein S-Tech Supra springs/Supra TT struts
2. Espilar Springs/ Blistein struts
3. Tein Basic Coilovers
4. Espilar springs/Stock TEMS struts (This would save me a lot of money)

I drive a 1992 Lexus Sc400 with 85k miles. I have 19's and im looking to lower my ride height to take away the gap but at the same time gain some handling!

I have heard nothing but bad things about tein basics on the sc forums but im still confused on whether or not its a step up from Espilar springs with Blistein struts. I really dont know how Tein S-Tech supra springs/Supra TT Struts perform compared to either of these.

Im going to order one of these today.
I cant wait to actually show you guys my car, It's in the shop right now getting a brand new cadiallac white diamond paint, vertex knock off kit, 92-96 OEM spoiler, 19inch volk gt7's gunmetal and polished. Just wanna have it dropped and ready to hit the streets when its done !!

 

I used to have the Espelir on stock TEMS shocks and let me tell you for the ride height it was SOFT. Rides beautifully when the road is nice and smooth, but if there's any (and I mean any) irregularities in the road watch out... a big enough hit will chew through your guard lining and eventually could tear up the wiring harness.

 

so would having different struts with the espelir springs solve that issue?

 

I've never heard of Espilir springs, so I don't know how good they are. All I know is the Bilstein HD shocks + good springs = for the win! (aka "ftw")

 

Probably, but I'd rather put the money towards either a firmer set of springs and suitable shocks or go the exxy route and get some coilovers up in them guards

 

I didn't know they made Bilsteins specifically for the SC. I know they make the Bilsteins HD for the Supra though. So, if you are going to use the Espelir ASD springs for the SC, you probably have to look for another shock besides the Bilsteins. You would have to use the Supra specific Espelirs and Supra Bilsteins. I have have seen people lowered with SC Espelirs and they are pretty low w/o any wheel gaps. Using the Supra Espelirs/Supra Bilsteins would probably lower you 0.5" more than the initial drop. As for me I will be going with Supra Tein h-techs and Supra Bilsteins within the next month.

 

tein basics suck. it shouldnt even be an option. if you add a bit more you can get a nicer coilover. from what i can see you dont need coilovers. just get some tokico struts and eibach or espilir psrings. i have tokico/eibach combo right now and on supra tt wheels if it was about an 1" lowr it would look perfect. since you have 19's it should compensate

 

Supra agx shocks and supra tein springs great ride and has rebound control.

 

Save a little longer and get some decent coilovers. Whether you really need a full-coilover or not you will be happier in the longrun.

 

I used to have Espelir Springs. Probably the best set of springs you can get on the market. They are a little pricey but you definitely get what you pay for. I had them on my stock shocks. The ride height was perfect. They handled great even at the track. But eventually I upgraded to Tein SS (Supra). They feel a little soft for my driving style. The ride height is perfect. I just wish I wouldnt have to spend a little extra for higher spring rates and a pillow ball mount. My brother just received his Megan Dampers. Higher spring rates, Pillow ball mounts, full (and I mean FULL) height adjustability, 36 levels of dampening, they cost as much as a shock/spring combo with free 2 day shipping.

im very close to picking up a set of stances. most likely in the next couple of weeks. i installed a set this past weekend on a buddy's car and they ride very well even when slammed.

the reason i like stance is because to lower the car you dont adjust the spring collar and you dont reduce the shock travel. the shock body threads into the lower shock mount that mounts to the control arm. this way you can completely slam your car and retain normal shock travel and thus retaining very decent drivability.

one of the reasons other coilovers dont drive very smooth is because when you lower the car you decrease the shock travel.

Gixxer_Drew(aka bilstein/hypercoil setup) is good if you dont lower the car too much because that leads to same problem of harsh ride and limited shock travel.
