Default Brake dust sheilds

Anyone ever try those brake dust sheilds that fit on the back of the wheel?

I'm surprised at the amount of dust these brakes make.

Not good IMO
Greatly reduces airflow to the brakes
Brakes cook, warping

I've used them before, but I certainly wouldn't do any hard driving with them. Of course, they will make your wheels look like they are just black steel wheels with nice hub caps.

has anyone tried those wax and polishes used on rims that supposedly help deflect brake dust?

like some of the products at:

http://www.meguiars.com/estore/product_list.cfm?sectionname=Consumer%20(Meguiar's%20Brand)%3EWheel%20Care&sectionID=13101

been somewhat curious to try those out..

I've been using Wheel Wax for years, and it works as advertised, keeping brake dust from clinging.

Im interested in the answer to this as well. My front wheels usually get extremely dusty after a few days. The back are okay.

I got a tip off Autogeek to put Klasse AIO on the wheels so I tried it and
was very impressed with the results. Stays clean much longer
Many of the waxes have oils in them and can collect dust.

That's weird I've used wheel wax before and the brake dust still clings. All it does is makes cleaning easier. I found there is nothing that will keep brake dust off the wheels. The only solution is get less dusty pads or wipe them down often.

That may not be strange. What finish do you have? I've found Wheel Wax very good for cutting down brake dust on chrome wheels, but not very good on alloy wheels. I guess we both should be a little more specific.

I love the BIG break look through the rim. But, I do agree a TON of dust before the rest of the car even gets dirty. Using, any product has to be better than nothing at all.

Thanks for the tip! I just applied my first coat last weekend. It seems to be working well even in rainy conditions, the dust build-up doesn't seem to be as severe as before. What's best is that any build-up is so much easier to wipe off even with a paper towel.

I would use a mini California duster before I would use a paper towel. They are cheap at Walmart.
