let us know what tires you get, i just replaced mine with michelin pilot sport a/s with the same size as stock. i also just lowered mine with the eibach's so my ride is less jittery than stock.

If you feel the ride is busy, then the change will surprise you. As is, the IS rides better than the e90 three series with the runflats, but after the change, it soaks up many of the imperfections of the road, that a 45 series tire struggles with. It is much calmer. On top of that, every bump is a slightly smaller one since the tire diameter of the front wheels have gone up. I actually prefer the steering feel with this set up!
Yes, there is some rubbing, from a protrusion in the wheel well liner moulding. A minute with a heat gun and a mould solved it easy. I used the back end of a car alarm siren to give it the factory moulded look.
Lastly, everyone thought i lowered my ride! One more thing. its quieter too.

I have no problem with a short heat gun session to get all the benefits you've listed. I'll be ready for tires by the end of the summer and plan to put Michelin Pilot A/S on in the 50 series size.
Once I have them on, I'll be back here to post my experience.

ive read that our cars are nit picky about sensing different overall tire diameters somewhere. make sure you talk to tirerack or discounttiredirect b4 adjusting to 50 series tires. let us know how it goes! i chose stock sizes for my 2nd set of tires and i bought the michelin pilot sport a/s. so far so good.

I've commented on this several times and I've called the ride 'choppy.' It never becomes unsettled as someone else mentioned, just 'choppy.'
I changed the stock dunlops out with Michelin PS2's in 235/40 and 265/40 (v. the stockers at 225/40 and 255/40.)
I don't know if it's very slightly taller sidewalls, or just the tire itself but the ride has gotten better and quieter. It could also be that the shocks are breaking in/getting a little softer.
Regardless, try to stay within 3% of the stock tire's overall diameter. If you go bigger than that, then you introduce a whole bunch of possible negatives.
