HKS Hipermax RS Coilovers for MKIV/SC300/SC400
Just got coilovers recently guys/gals. Actually came in today after 2 months worth of waiting. I got the HKS Hipermax RS Coilovers, ordered directly from our fine vendor - MVP Motorsports.
My purpose of this thread is to offer the SC community a little bit more info on these Coilovers. So when you search, you won't come up empty handed and that at least someone here has tried them. The only thread I got the most info belonged to "MrJohnTan" in regards to these coils. I wanted to take the time to sort of add to that thread by providing actual photos. Also, it will give a lot of us a better idea of what we really want when it comes to buying a set of Coilovers. Although I have yet to install them, I will be providing how they ride and so forth. So here they are...
The box they came in...
Fresh out of the box
No flash, wrenches thrown in(Instructions and valve adjustment tool still in the box)...
The bodies of the shocks...powdercoated as "MrJohnTan" stated...
Shot of the signature anodized Purple upper mount and "HKS" stamp on the coil. For some odd reason, the pic came out blurry....but you get the idea.
Current pic of the car that this suspension set-up will be calling home.
My initial thoughts: Having never owned coilovers before, HKS has definetely exceeded my expectations. I've seen Hipermax II's and various Tein Coilovers up close in person and the RS has that same level of quality, if not better. When I purchased my SC3 6 months ago, it came with Tanabe lowering springs. The ride was ok, slightly bouncy but not overwhelming. I wanted a stiff ride. So I had to step up.
Why I chose the RS you ask???
Well, I haven't seen too many SC owners running them, so I took the plunge. Be sort of a pioneer. I've always wanted HKS suspension, so why the hell not. Color also played a role in choosing a coilover set. I was not keen on the Tein green. I couldn't ask for a better finish. Being basically all black, it's very stealthy.
Plus, many months of planning for my SC300 has to be well executed by using only the finest parts available. I should get my car back Monday and have them installed shortly after. I will update you guys when I do. Feel free ask me any questions...I will try to answer to the best of my judgement and knowledge.
