turning the ***** beyond 16 does damage the shock, thats how i ruined mine on my RSX

Mine went bad over time. They started rattling worse than the normal Tein rattle, so I tightened the nuts. It stopped the rattle for awhile, but eventually killed the rods. That's why I had Tein rebuild them. They've been fine ever since.

does damage occur after a certain # of miles? i have some noise coming from the fronts that i tightened to 5 and the sound gradually came. i cant tell if its the teins though.

I have a little noise coming from the rear, but only when I run over road dots. There is no other type of bump that will make them make noise. They seem to be working fine, so are they damaged because they make a little noise or are they just notorious for making noise. And why don't they give you instructions that can notify you of how to operate them. I don't know how to read Japanese.

We've all been wondering that for years. The Tein SS-Ps I put on my Scion tC did have English instructions. They did not have helper springs, and they were not noisy. The HAs on my Supra have helper springs, and they have rattled frequently, but I have not had the rattle except under extreme circumstances since I had them rebuilt.

I have no idea how many miles you need to run before they are damaged. I got my HAs used, and they had been run more than 16 clicks off most of the time before I got them, so I really can't say anything about how long it takes. I just know it is an important warning in the English (and Japanese) install instructions.

Well I imagine that if they were damaged, their damping capabilities would be greatly affected, mine are not. They are working great. The rear just has a clicking noise when I run over road dots and I am not sure they didn't do it from day one. I have just noticed it recently because the weather at night is cool enough to drive with the windows down.
SO mine are performing fine and aren't leaking any oil, so I would think it is safe to assume they are fine, RIGHT?!

Furthermore why would they even enable you to be able to select an adjustment parameter that may be detrimental to the damper? That is stupid.

You'll get no argument from me about that. It's one of the reasons I believe Tein is not a first tier suspension provider.

So in your best advice, would say I should just drive my car and hope nothing happens? I mean why fix something if it isn't broken, right?

That's what I did with my Supra. I waited until I had a real problem before sending them in for work.

And the "REAL" problem for you wasn't even leaking or internal damage, it was a stripped rod?

Right. I had both rods replaced in the rear shocks.

well then I guess it should be relatively safe to say that I am worrying about nothing, because the dampers perform GREAT, and the rods appear to be prestine.

just sucks when it creaks over speed bumps or dips where the suspension becomes unloaded then loaded again. i thought it was the tires but it happens on dirt roads too.

This is what Tein had to say when I wrote them an email. Needless to say I am relieved as to what they had to say.

"Thank you for your interest in TEIN High Performance suspension products.

Turning your damper below 16 clicks shouldn't have damaged your coilovers,
valve will stop on its own once you go pass 16 clicks from the full stiff.
The best way to adjust your coilovers is to turned to the stiffest setting
then turn back to your desired adjustment.

Also mine don't squeak, the rear make a clicking noise when I go over road dots. Other than that they are just as smooth and quiet as stock.
