Can you use OEM strut top mounts with aftermarket coilovers? Or do you have to use the strut top mounts that come with them?

some coilovers (for example the old school tein HA) actually uses the stock upper mount i believe. otherwise if there is already one that comes with the coilovers, i say just use it

Hey Rominl,

I was just wondering about this because the stock mounts don't make noise and with some of the solid mounts I've read that they are a bit harsh - so why not just use the oem mounts I was thinking. But I didn't know if this was a possibility or not? I was thinking that the spring that comes with coilovers is a different size than the oem one too - so if this is the case then they wouldn't work.

Some suspensions are designed to reuse the OEM mounts while others include their own mounting system. The Tein Basic and SS both reuse OEM mounts. The more expensive ones such as CSv2 and Flex include their own mounts. The CSv2 has a rubber upper mount so it shouldn't be too much harsher than stock. The one that is harsher is the Tein FLEX(which I have ) because it uses a solid metal upper mount kinda like a rigid ball joint assembly.

and for example the tein HA/SS, you definitely want the stock mount, otherwise it's going to be stiff as hell, haha

Bilstein PSS also requires the use of the stock top hats. Noise free coilovers
