has anyone ever sat in both setups? i have read that the tanabe is actually smoother than the CS is this true? how do they compare because i can save myself 300 dollars by going with the tanabe..im just looking for the smoothest ride somewhere very close to stock.. dont like the stiff ride much on a luxury car

Show us the link of where it says the Tanabe is softer. Sounds like you are fishing for a reason to get the cheaper setup. If you are then just get them. I don't see how they can ride softer though with stiffer spring rates.

Honestly, I'm the first one who installed Tanabe Sustec five on 2IS
and from about month experience, soft setting is actually softer than stock,
if you change into Stiffer setting, its stiff, stiff. Medium setting was perfect
for me. Had experience with Tein in different vehicle, I'd said both brands
are reputable, but if you want me to decide between two coilovers,
I do go with Tanabe because of the ride quality and TEAS Automatic eletronic controller

It depends which spec Tein CS you get. The JDM-spec CS coilovers are much stiffer than the US-spec set. For whatever reason, the US-spec coilovers ride MUCH smoother. The car I rode in went from JDM-spec Tein CS coilovers to the Tanabe Sustec Pro-Five, and rode much smoother on the "neutral" setting.

If you got the Tanabe with TEAS you could basically have the best of both worlds. Compfortable driving around town and a more firm stance for hard driving. In my opinion Tein is just a name. Not sure if its true, but Ive heard rumors that they have started producing their coilovers in Taiwan.
