Default Steering Rack Bushings Carson Toyota

I ordered a set of steering rack bushings from Carson toyota. On their website under the description of this part it states valid to production date of 1/94. Not sure what that means exactly. I have a 94 sc400 and I just want to make sure they fit ok.

Means if your car was made before January of 1994, they will fit, but if it was made after, they will not. Check on your drivers door to find the date of manufacture.

What did you pay for them?

Do they have a metal center, and or metal side plates?

Thanks

Paid $38 plus 11 for shipping. Not sure if they have a metal center. I haven't received them yet. The door jamb says manufactured 8/93. It looks from the picture they don't have a metal center. Hopefully they hold up, maybe its the daizen's that have the metal center. Has anyone installed the ones sold by Carson Toyota without any issues of the bushing breaking?

I received the bushings from Carson Toyota today for the rack and pinion. The inner sleeve isn't metal like the Daizens have. So what I was thinking is if its close enough (in size) to the factory metal sleeves in the old bushings I will try to swap it into the Carson bushings. I think the Daizens are made better, but I will see what I can do with these. I was so much in a hurry I didn't realize that the one's from Carson Toyota had the plastic inner sleeve. Usually I plan ahead and research as much as possible. I will install them tomorrow and post the results.

I've run into some problems installing the steering rack bushings. I don't know how people say they can do it in thirty seconds. First off when I put one side of the bushing in and then the center into the middle of the bushing it won't go in, should I use grease. Secondly I don't see how its possible to remove the bushing above the rack. Mine is still in one piece and it has to be pushed out somehow. Just doesn't look like its possible to put in a new bushing in its place without removing the rack from the car. I just don't see how. If anyone has any advice. I have searched and haven't found anything too detailed and everyone else seems to think its a breeze.

I have the passenger side bushing replaced and the front rack bushing replaced so far. I was able to take the metal sleeve and use that instead of the supplied plastic sleeve. So I don't have to worry about it shattering. I just took my lighter and ignited the bushing. It didn't take long for the rubber to burn off. Now I just have the upper bushing left and I already notice and feel a difference in the steering. The car doesn't follow the road as much when I encounter a bump. So hopefully when I install the other bushing it will eliminate the extra play I still feel a little. When I removed the old bushing it still appeared to be in good shape. There weren't any cracks but I think it was a bit smaller than what it use to be. The top bushing doesn't look fun.

Finally finished changing the steering rack bushings. Certainly notice a difference. Although on some bumps the wheel will still turn on its own. I guess that would only leave the tie rods. I think next time I'll either order a remanufactured rack from lexus or get the Daizens. Most likely I'll just replace the rack.
