Arrow First Look: 2008 IS350 Brake Dust on the Liquid Graphite 18" Wheels...

Well its confirmed we still have the dusty pads, but in my opinion its not that bad I guess...

I can tell the brakes are a bit grabby, but it just takes some getting used too..

I'm still not sure if I will get the Brake TSIB done... I have heard from several people that the stopping performance suffers a bit...

As I originally thought, the Liquid Graphite Wheel Finish does a great job blending together with and hidding the brake dust... The rears were not bad at all, and I forgot to take a pic before I washed them..

The fronts are a different story..

For the record this was about 2 weeks or approx 500 miles of brake dust on the front..

Enjoy! Joe Z

Front Dirty

Front Clean

Rear Clean

Get the brake TSB done, the 'performance' loss is in your head, you'll adjust to it in no time. Trust us when we say its the best thing you can do.

I agree, do the TSB as soon as you can. There's no loss of brake performance... maybe a tiny bit if you're really **** about it. Considering you get pretty much no brake dust after doing it, it's worth it for sure.

Joe, definitely get the TSIB done and make sure they give you the correct green pads. Wiping off the front wheels all the time was a PITA! Now the brake dust in the front isn't much worse than the rear. Only thing that is noticeable to me is the initial pedal effort to stop the car is a bit more than before.

Get it done (night and day difference), but get some use out of the original pads. I waited till the 5K free-be!

You may want to get the TSIB (ground loop) done on the auxiliary audio input (If the 08 needs it) and the rearview mirror TSIB.

Yeah, I'm already seeing dust with only 250 miles on my 08...I'm gonna wait for the 5k service though to get some life outta these pads... I agree the LG finish on the 08 wheels helps a lot to hide it though.

I thought the rear-view TSB had a production date on it implying the 08s wouldn't have the issue? (hadn't noticed it on mine yet anyway). I'm curious if the aux input TSB needs to be done though, my ipod hasn't shipped yet so I can't check...

With the ipod attached to power (charger) you will hear engine noise!

I got the TSIB done and I think there is a big difference. You definitely have to press the brake alot harder to get similar performance out of the new ones. With the old pads you just barely tap on the brakes and the car stops instantly. I guess its just preference. I might switch back to the old pads when these ware out.

I had mine done @5K miles....regretted that I didnt have it done sooner! hahaha

I liked the new pads as they are not as "touchy"....more progressive than the dusty pads.....

The service advisor at JM Lexus said that the TSB replacement pads are "louder" as in squeeky loud. Can anyone who had the TSB done confirm this to be true or not?

He also told me that I have up to 10k miles and/or 1 year to get it done, so I plan on waiting a least a few months.

No noise and great braking.
I had mine done at 20600 miles.

The service advisor at my Lexus dealer tried to talk me out of changing the pads also.
I soooo glad I did.

Does anybody question why Lexus still continues to use the dusty pads as OEM?? It is either COST (cheaper) or PERFORMANCE (better). If the price was the same and their was no difference in performance/wear why wouldn't Lexus change to the new pads as OEM? I'll stick with the OEM pads, the dust isn't objectionable on my G-Spiders, and I like the performance. Personally I think Lexus designed the car with the pads that work best, which is why they still continue to use them as OEM. The replacement pads are a compromise in Lexus' view to solve a visual problem. There is a tradeoff in there somewhere.
