Daizen Steering Rack Bushing Replacement Questions?
#77
guess i should jump in and say that I am also waiting to install these steering rack bushings soon, Not sure if I have the first or second batch, most probably the 2nd batch since I do seem to recall it to be grey and not gold. we'll see....

I have the 2nd/grey batch and just installed them.
I checked out the clearance between the bolt and the sleaves and yes the OEM sleave has virtually no clearance, but the Daizen sleave had considerable clearance. But I put them in anyway and everything seems to be working fine so far.

I just installed the 2nd batch on another car and the owner said the car tracked fine. The only thing I noticed was that it was harder to assemble the sleeve/bushings in because it was TIGHT. I even greased up the bushing/sleeve and I had to use a lot of force to get them in.
On the other hand, the 1st batch install was a breeze. I completely forgot to measure the sleeve when I had it.

Mechanic installed mine today (grey ones), said no problems. Can tell the difference (thumbs up).
I agree with previous post #69 that they're fine. People getting worked up over basically the color of the part that they'll never see again after it's installed with an emotional response that it is "defective".
Maybe if the 2nd batch was chromed or had glitter ppl would be ditching the first batch instead as being the "defective" ones.
Now if you are having problems with your specific unit due to actual defect(rather then it's the "grey" ones) that's a different story.
