For those of you who have replaced your own breakpads/rotors, how oftern do you do it? Every 30k for pads and 60k for rotors? Thanks!

Do you have a 250 or a 350? I changed my brake pads when it hit 14k. The brake pad has a warning system. When the brake pads are worn out so much, it's going to make a squeaking noise that sounds like metal against metal. That's when you need to change them.

I have a 350. So it does have a sensor? My buddy told me thats when he changes his out is when the light comes on. I have 20k miles on mine, but I don't drive aggressively. The only noise I hear when I stop is a slight squak but that's because I haven't washed my car in a long time.

Are the pads pretty easy to change?

Brake pads are about as easy of a DIY job as it gets, but if you are asking this question, I suspect you don't really understand brakes. You change pads and rotors only when they are worn out. Depending on your driving habits, you might get 100K miles out of your pads, and 300K out of your rotors. Of course, 20-30K is more likely.

I'm not aware of any cars that have brake pad wear sensors, so I suspect that your buddy's car was warning him of low brake fluid or an ABS problem. Most pads do have wear indicators that will make lots of noise when there's just a little bit of pad left.

Thanks to JavyLSU, Here is a really good thread about changing the pads on a 350.

Wow that thread is awesome! Thanks for your help. Yeah I've never replaced brake pads before, but I'm tired of paying for maintenance stuff like that and oil where the parts are 1/10th the labor I get charged at the dealership when I can just do it myself.
