Lowest, Comfy, Sportiest Ride - Springs/Struts
#22
I know im a total noob when it comes to suspension, but im learning fast.
I read this thread and gixxer thread. I like the sound of that setup. However, Im curious how do you measure how much of a drop you are at from stock ride height? My shocks are blown to hell and looks to me like the suspension may be sagging a bit. So if i do a hypercoil/bilstein setup, how to i measure my ride height adjustment?

RedPhoenix: Thanks a lot for this thread and your install thread. I probably would have not considered this set up had it not been for these threads. I too am seeking the same objectives as you when I do my suspension upgrade. I am certain my suspension is sagging because I have never seen another stock SC as low as mine.
I was pricing some things out, and to my understanding, the Bilstein shock will work with any spring designed for the JZA80. Can anyone comment on how the Tein S. Tech spring would perform on the same setup? Would the spring rate be ok for the SC's increased mass? Would there be any downsides to choosing this spring over the Bilstein springs?
Any advice is appreciated, and sorry in advance if these questions have been answered elsewhere... I'm still searching.

Please post too, I want this to be a discussion thread.
After all this time I have been looking at purchasing coilovers. At this time in my life I do no see the need for coilovers, nor should I be pissing the money away. Although I would love to have a set, I don't think its feasible.
So I am looking for the best possible spring/strut setup. Yes I have searched. I read multiple threads and everyone has a different opinion on EVERYTHING.
Everything is Supra-spec, for lowest drop possible.
For Springs, I am looking at Swift (being the most pricey), Tanabe GF210 (Being the most bang for buck), and Tein S-Tech (being the cheapest). The Tanabe seems to have the most info, but Ive heard nice things about Swift.
Swift - $276 obo (ebay)
Drop Rate (F/R): 1.2/1.0"
Spring Rate (F/R): 5.0-9.4/3.0-4.2kg
Tanabe GF210 - $200ish (ebay)
Spring Rates: 8.5 / 4.2
Drop (F/R): 1.2 / 1.0
Tein S-Tech - $180ish (ebay)
Spring Rates: 12 / 6.5
Drop (F/R): 1.1 / 1.0
For struts I cannot decide between Bilstein (heard really nice things about), Tokico Adjustable (is it worth it?), Tokico non adjustable (to save a few bucks), or KYB AGX (mixed feelings about KYB honestly).
Struts
Bilstein - $379 (shox.com)
Tokico Adjustable - $420
Tokico Non Adjustable - $250ish
KYB AGX - $400
As it stands I have my mind set on Tanabe GF210 and Tokico Adjustables or Bilsteins.
I really dont know as of yet though.

I had a set of tokico d specs on my last g35 and they were great and took alot of abuse from the drop and the track days. Good product and it wont break the bank

This thread has given me lots of useful information during my search for a new suspension system. I opted with KYB-GR2 and Tanabe NF210 springs. Additionally, I purchased all 4 mounts to fully refresh the suspensions, since my car sc300 is over 10 years old. The ride is awesome! Thank you thread!
Now, working on the front lower control arm (LCA). Bought a pair of Supra LCA at Carlson Toyota at a fraction of the cost of the Lexus' LCA. Looking to get it installed this Friday at Baltimore. Wish me luck, and thank you ClubLexus.
