Default Need to change my rear brake pads...

The question is: Should I just save my time and take it to the dealer, or DIY?

And when I say DIY, I mean to let someone do it for me for cheaper...

do it yourself or don't do it at all, rear brakes not that important compared to the front. How do you know you need to change it?

Oh man i just got a coupon from my dealer today and it has a buch or coupons. One of them are Lifetime Front and rear brakes for only one price. I have to call and ask for the pricing. Has Lifetime oil change for only $130. Also lifetime Tires and Battery($190)

I say do it yourself the dealer will rape you.

Yes i recall reading your thread "why when i DIY..."

Why not have another CL member help you out? I am sure you have some great people in your area that would help out for some beer or something

What are you going to change them with? I was considering going to ceramic but not sure the pros and cons. I know one Pro and that is less brake dust!!

Phil, why don't you let me do them? It'll cost you CONSIDERABLY less, and we can make a DIY out of it...

Probably wont work. Different caliper setup on the back. Might be easier then the fronts though.

Must be nice to have Javy around as a friend.

Kind of jealous!

The concept is the same, but the exact procedure is a bit different. I haven't had to change mine yet, so I haven't had the opportunity to do a rear DIY.

Javier
This is an old thread for me.

I've since had the brakes checked, and it has since been squeak-free. The brakes probably have another 10k miles until it needs changing...

Rear brakes are very easy. Only problem when changing pads is when the caliper bolts (x2) sieze up with corrosion. The 350 may allow pad replacement from the top of the caliper as the 250 does. I know you can change the front pads on a 350 without removing the caliper. Some people like to resurface their rotors, so you may want to remove. Brake jobs are easy. make sure to not let the caliper dangle by the brake line. Always rest it on something like a log of tool box. Some calipers require a special tool (available at auto stores and sears) which allow you to turn the piston in order to compress it. Also, it is best to open the hood abd remove the top to the master cyliner in order to relive a little back pressure when compressing the piston(s).

You need rear breaks already, how many miles do you have. I have 35000 miles and my rear pads look brand new.
