Changing inner tie rod ends
#16
Interesting...
Changed out the tie rod ends this past weekend. Had the front end aligned also. My front end shake is gone. The passenger side inner tie rod end was bad.
I changed the inside tie rod ends just as Frank T described (thanks again Frank). I loosened the inner tie rods with a large, thin Crescent wrench. They were easy to change on this car, but I think it would be tough on a small FWD car.
I hope this helps,

I've got 160,000 miles and just ordered my passenger side inner tie rod end from Advance Auto and they charged me $47. Not too bad considering when my Gs is jacked up I can wiggle at 3 & 9 o'clock and hear "clunk" and I also get vibrations that are on and off at freeway speeds. I'll see if this cures my vibrations as full dazien bushings did not fix it. Can't wait

I did this after I had done my outer ties and ball joints.
I paid like $1xx for em both from Napa Auto Parts. I checked literally like 9 advances and 6 autozones before I gave up and just had to have em shipped to me.
You can tell if your inner tie rods are bad definitively only if you take off the outer tie rod and move around the inner tie rod. If it fails to stay solid or in place when you're moving it around then you need to replace it. If its solid and 'sticks' in place you're good to go.
If youre holding your wheels at 10 and 2 or whatever and its shaking or you feel it being loose its your wheel bearings.
Please dont give out false information or unknown info when it comes to mechanics of vehicles.

I know the link is for an LS, but the process for the GS is very similar.

1994 GS300 Inner Tie Rod passenger side
I'm trying to replace the inner tie rod on my 1994 GS300 and I'm wondering what to do next. I have the outer tie rod removed from the wheel assembly and see the boot / clamp removed. I see the bent washer and have lifted both ends. Here are my questions:
1. Do I turn the 11/4 inch nut thats part of the inner tie rod? Normal direction?
2. Do I turn the 2 inch? brass nut that the tie rod appears to be screwed into?
3. My replacement tie rod has normal threads on the small end that goes into the rack pipe, but has reverse threads on the fat part next to the boot, is this right?? If so, obviously I would need to remove the brass nut first using reverse threading logic?
Thanks!
Todd

Did you tried it out at the local Junkyard? I sure there are plenty of Toyota all rusted in New England. Just kidding.
