Speaking of worthless dealerships...

Got my IS back from my first 5k service today- no TSIB. Doesn't apply to 08s. I have the "latest" brake pads.

Written on the "after" work summary is this-

"S104 Vehicle is equipped with high-friction front brake pads. Specifically designed for superior braking performance and response. Under certain conditions it is possible for the guest to experience a larger volume of brake dust. This is not indicative of a problem with the braking system. Tech 109."

Now, it's an 08... so technically they're right that it's not covered by the TSIB... but I was hoping I'd get lucky and they'd do it anyway... based on the comment above "certain conditions" is "using the brakes.... ever."

Just to verify, for those of you who got the new pads, how many of you were charged for "turning" the rotors?

They didn't turn them, and if they did I wouldn't have paid. I would have complained severely since turning the rotors is usually a waste of good rotor material.

So you would never have rotors turned at all? Just use them until they get too thin? And if they are uneven, not worry about it,unless you noticed a huge vibration?

I ask because I wonder if I have a right to tell Lexus, despite the massive groove in my rotor,

I don't want it turned, if they think it's abnormal, I only want it replaced..?

First measure the groove. This is the only time I would have a disc ground, but the groove would have to be more than 1mm deep. If the disc is no longer within minimum thickness specs after being ground, then it needs to be replaced.

I would also insist on centerless grinding, not turning. It's how the brake discs are machined at the factory.

DO you suspect the dealership is even capable of centerless grounding?

I'm guessing, but I'm suspecing the groove is about .75mm thick. In that case, you'd just leave everything as it is then?

Yes. Install new pads, call it a day. Inspect every oil change.

I'm hoping Lexus will cover the pads, do they even stock the high friction pads that came stock on the car?

I'm sure they do since they're the same pads they're putting on new ones today.

The low-dust pad (which stops just as well) is an alternative pad, not a replacement one.

I just got it done last Friday with 14000 miles. They didn't machine/turn the rotors but it feels fine, no vibrations even driving downhill. I noticed the brake feel to be a little harder than before, not sure if it's the pads being brand new or the difference in material.

I have almost 16k on my brake pads. They have an annoying squeek to it. Is it possible to still have the pads replaced with the tsib or will I have to pay for them? I have an 07 is250.

thanks

I posted a while back and said that I had the TSB done and that I am still having issues with dust. On my invoice it says they installed 04465-30410 Pad Kit. I take it that is why - Correct?

If you still notice dust, they didn't put the right pads in the calipers.

If your car is an 06-07 and still under warranty you qualify for the TSIB. Don't let the dealer tell you otherwise.
