To clarify-

All years, including 08s, got the same high dust pads from the factory. These are -still- considered "current" parts. The TSIB pads are -alternate- parts.

The TSIB does NOT cover 2008s as of right now.

SOME dealerships will be nice and do the TSIB pads anyway on an 08.

SOME dealerships will insist that since 08s aren't covered by the TSIB they won't do it.

NONE are -required- to do it however. Any that do are doing so as a courtesy.

My dealership refused for example, as have many others.

My hope is they'll add 08s to the TSIB eventually, I've got another 45k miles to keep hoping and in the meantime I'll just clean my wheels often.

You can also quit being cheap and just buy them for the IS350

or the IS250.

For free I'll save myself a little wheel cleaning. For money I'll just clean the wheels.

Now, if the pads wear out and the TSIB still doesn't cover it, sure I'll buy the low-dust ones as replacements.

I'm sure to some folks who find cleaning the wheels off more annoying they might find it worth a cosmetic parts change at their own expense though.

The OEM pads are still a LOT cheaper than the low dust replacements.

I guess Magnussen's in Fremont is one of these dealerships since I recently had the TSIB brake pads done on my '08 with absolutely NO hassle.

I first simply called their parts dept. told them I heard/read about the TSIB front brake pads for the IS and wished to have them replaced. They said ok and scheduled a time for me to come in that day.

When there I told them the same thing and they said they would swap it out free of charge. No questions asked.

On my invoice, it describes:
"Customer states there is excessive brake dust on the front. Please advise."

The tech replaced my front brake pads with part# 04465-30400 Pad Kit

Lucky me I guess cuz I now have 90% less dust build-up in the front.

The interesting thing is that I was sent a questionaire on the '08 IS. One of the specific questions was about the brake dust! It was an addendum to the original questionaire. Maybe they're gathering data???
