What do you not get?
If installed by a dealer warranty is 12 months or the remainder of the vehicle warranty, whichever is longer.
If it's not installed by a dealer warranty is 12 months, and if it's installed wrong and breaks something else on the car that breakage isn't covered by your factory warranty.

so if a dealer installs it and my motor mounts break then dealers cover it...and if 3rd party installs it and my motor mounts break dealer won't cover it?

I think the point being that it's hard for Lexus to argue that a mod damaged an otherwise warranty item when Lexus installed the mod. If it wasn't safe, they should not have installed it.

1. i bought my s-techs, $180. brand new.
2. tommy @ musicbox (check the socal threads for how highly recommended he is) in south el monte, california installed my s-techs in two hours TOP for $150. and that was when he first started working on 2is's (he's been known to do the install in under an hour now)...
3. three weeks later, i took my 2is for an alignment after i let my s-techs settle in. four wheel, laser. $80.
that's $410. less than half of what the stealership is charging.
granted...
1. i live in socal, and speed shops/local mechanics here abound. install rates are ultra-competitive.
2. f-sport springs retail for, what, $300?
which ever way you look at the numbers, you can definitely pay a lot less than what the dealership is charging. and btw, it's not out of the question for a local speed shop to do good work for the kind of price that some of us have been throwing around. just because you're overpaying doesn't mean the rest of us are/have.
oh, and i have full faith and confidence in tommy @ musicbox to do the install work on my car. otherwise, he wouldn't be so highly recommended, would he?...

projectdna, I agree full heartedly.
1. Eibach pro-kit from Tire Rack: $230 including shipping
2. Tommy @ Musicbox installed for me in 1.5 hour: $150
3. Lifetime alignment from Firestone: $160 (I track my car so this is a worthy investment)
Total: $540. Still way less than the quoted $1000.

And good for you guys that know an indi shop can and will do it for that price...great!!! we all do find a deal somewhere...outthere....for certain things... in players position 1. he dont live in LA.. and 2. he would have to find a indi shop that would be willing to quote a job like this for that kind of range...150 to 200...and not having to pound the pavement trying to find someone trust worthy for that...
And who says im overpaying!?!?! And who says you have to also...!?!! I'm not pointing the direction of water in a desert..geeshhh

you must've missed the part in my original post where i said that "granted... i live in socal, and speed shops/local mechanics here abound. install rates are ultra-competitive." you also must've missed the part where i asked the OP if he had a toyota/lexus specialist or a local mechanic that he trusts to work on his car - besides the stealership.
my response was to your first post, because you made it seem as if it was impossible to find a reputable shop to do the install for less money and less time than the stealership. the caveat being that YMMV depending on location - which, again, you missed.
my point is this. it is definitely possible for the OP to find a reputable shop/mechanic to do the install work for his 2is. while you make it sound like it's impossible, it's not; however, it will probably take some time for him to find that one shop/mechanic to do it. also, it doesn't and shouldn't take 3-4 hours to do the 2is springs install... 2 to 3, tops, is about right.
btw, walk far enough in one direction, and you'll eventually find water. /OT

If something totally unrelated to the part you had someone else install breaks they still have to fix it under warranty.
That's the case for all parts that didn't come on the car from the factory though.
If you have the dealer install an F-sport part then they treat it like it's something that came on the car from the factory essentially.
This will matter more or less depending on what the part is and how likely it'd be to be able to break anything else if done wrong... For example I'm gonna do the swaybars myself because there's relatively little else that could break that could be "blamed" on the F-sport swaybars and I don't think an extra couple years of warranty on the bars themselves will matter much either.
