Default Brake Shim Kit

Hello,

I am gonna have my brake pads replaced at a local store. I will be bringing my own stuff... As I was browsing through sewell for brake pads, I noticed that there is something called "Brake Shim Kit" and they recommend having them replaced at the time of pad change..

Is Shim kit necessary or should I just get new pair of pads?

Thanks guys

Well if you're gonna buy them, make sure the shop USES them. cause they can easily just toss them in the trash when you're not looking. It's not compeltely necessary to change the shims but if you don't it could cause squeaking/squeeling noises later down the line.

My brakes were replaced and the shims were not installed. They squeal under braking at speeds under 10 mph. I have purchased the shims and plan on installing them shortly. I would make sure they were replaced or at least not removed.
